HI Duffems , I was brought into this world sixty years ( 1952) ago by Dr. Sloan in the front bedroom of the flats across the road from Larders chemist, Also at my mums side (Im told) was a lady called Beril Marshall who lived at the house at the rear of the chemist. I probably know you but I left in 1973 when I got married. Dr Sloans wife was also a doctor but she kept her pre married name of Dr King. Intresting post for me this as I recognise most of the names and places written about ,and as I have lived in Hinckley near Coventry for the past 33 years its like a trip down memory lane..Lets have a few more posts. Hi Mickward and Carruthers, I also lived on Valley road and went to that school , it was Carfield I was there from1957 to 1963 (then to Newfield) in the infants the head was Mrs Nichols and in the juniors it was Mr Chandler .Some teachers in the juniors Ms. Booth, Dean, and Platt,also Mr Bloxam and Vasey. Mr Wall was the swimming instructor at Heeley baths and his wife was a teacher in the infants.

  5. Hi Wally I served my apprenticeship there about 1967 to 73 in the welding shop with Ernest Nelson and George (Bolesloft) Lotker. This is at the end of your time there I know but can add a few more names;- Electricians Kieth Jepson, David Renolds, Lol and Frank. Next door in plumbing Eric Wosternome, Walter Davey, Steven Fogg. and two chippies Dick Gratrex and Ronnie France. Brill place to work,

I was a regular at silver blades and as I recall there were two tunes, one for the speed skate and another straight after for the figure of eight (remember that ) however I think you will find one is the "Post Horn Gallop" and the other was "The Saber Dance " but I am not sure which was which. Think Im right but won`t put money on it
  7. Hi I was born and raised at the bottom of Valley Rd untill 1973 ,I used to play with a " Steven Garbutt" Who lived on Little London in the fifties and sixties. It has got to be the same Family but I cant tell you any more about them I to remember the sound of trains in the shunting yard and worked at Tyzack sons and Turners till 1973.A bad house fire killed an elderly lady in the early sixties at the bottom of Little London Rd.
