I was on the fab and weld from the first day Stan opened. I went on to complete the course and then did a further. Five years on the technicians course. Lecturers names I remember were mr Jackson (maths) mr Flint welding technology. Mr m Harrison tech drawing. You were probably in the same classes as me looking at the dates. Chat soon D. -
My dad worked on the trams through my childhood. When I would stand at the tram stop on Chesterfield road with an enamel billy can of tea the top doubled as a cup. He would take me to the terminus where I would reverse all the seats. Before setting of back. At the stop opposite where I got on he would drop me off and see me safely over the road. Loved those trams. !

Would you move back to Sheffield
TimeBandit52 replied to Allen's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Been back a couple of times recently after 35 years living between Leics and Coventry first time back variable speed camera on M1 cost me eighty quid, second time another thirty quid for being in a bus lane. Sheffield is now the most driver unfriendly city I have ever known. ( bear in mind one job I had I was doing a thousand mile a week so I`ve been about a bit ) I would recomend to everyone not to go. Shame the place was brill in the 60s and 70s. -
My wife and best pal worked there late 60s to late seventies in the warehouse, Margaret Oldfield and pal Janet Roe,

HI to all, yes you are all right, I was born and lived for 20 years at the bottom of Valley Road ( top of Arthington Street ) and yes the brook ran at the bottom of Arthington St. and in the early sixties was put through five or six foot concreat pipes. I know this as fact because my pals and I played in them when layed, walking probably hundreds of feet underground with candles.we used to gather in manholes! so they must still be somewere still on the old route so I bet you could trace them. Best of luck !!

Can anyone remember the street bonfires in the fifties and early sixties held in the middle of Southall street at the end. Mrs Skeltons house wall was opposite and the fire brigade were called every year as soon as she could feel her inner wall getting hot. You could hardley get past when it got going. As for cars, no in or out untill next day.

Hi again Duffems, The Baileys family (Alan and Winnie, and kids; Pam, David, Geoff, Gordon, Jackie and Bret.) lived at the top of Arthington St. between Joseph Sanderson and Fred and Freda Briddon when I lived there, Geoff was trained by Fretwell Downing (no relation) and was a top man at baking and decorating cakes etc, my guess he,s the one who did your wedding cake.
