How Far Does Your Memory Stretch?
grannie-anni replied to old tup's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I was born in 1941 in Dronfield. Remember infants school, headmistress Miss McCrea made puppets and I was found one day pinching pennies from the hem of the curtains of the puppet theatre. They were there to weight them down. I was in real trouble. -

My driving instructor was Bert Fell and I passed first time in thick fog at Handsworth on December 1971. Still remember things he taught me. -
Meersbrook in the 60s and 70s

Our newsagents was Maltby's on Chesterfield Road, near the bottom of Millmount Road. -
Does anyone remember living in Meersbrook in the 60s and 70s. We had a newsagents on Chesterfield Road and lived at the back of the shop from 1066-1970 when we moved to Burcot Road. My children went to Meersbrook Bank school and Newfield. Does anyone remember Harold who had a paper shop next to Car Spares on Chesterfield Road and Florrie the cat woman who lived on Norton Lees Road.

Brewmart on Abbey Lane is still trading. The previous owner has retired but new owners have taken over. They have a good selection including basic.

Do you remember the fletchers bread van?
grannie-anni replied to craigmason's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I worked at Gunstones Bakery in the1950s and remember working in production. We used to get the stale buns and cakes which were returned from the van drivers and we had to crumble them up and the crumbs were made into Russian Slice. I've seen mould and allsorts go into these. -
Do you remember the fletchers bread van?

I remember the Fletchers bread van coming up Barnes Avenue in 1960's. Best vanilla slices ever, also custard tarts. -
I worked there in 1957-59. Had some good times. Still in touch with a couple of old workmates. Anyone remember Ernest and Walt and Sacky in the stores.

Dreamworks at the bottom of the Moor is excellent value. £5 for men and £6 for women. This is for a haircut, no appointments required.
