  1. Are you sure that's a good idea? The developer who built on the garden centre next to this property ended up selling most of the properties at cost to the council because they couldn't sell them privately. Also, the flats at the cross roads were very slow to sell - and they weren't luxury.
  2. There's Adele, up on the hill behind Meadowhall. I imagine most other wholesalers can be found on Google.
  3. You will need permission from the council to put billboards on the side of a property. If you contact the planning department they will be able to send you the relevant documents. In regard to companies that lease the space, JC Decaux is the world's largest such company, although there are several more. They will obviously take a cut of the gross.
  4. Is this near the proposed site for the Shale Gas well?
  5. May I very strongly recommend that you avoid PayPal at all costs - truly horrible company to deal with.
  6. The Creative Arts Space in Sheffield (CADS) springs to mind. Call Steve Rimmer and have a chat about what you need - CADS is a charity so prices are very reasonable, plus Steve is a great guy. http://cads-online.co.uk/
  7. There was a story in the Star a couple of weeks ago about thieves stealing the brass handrails outside of Town Hall. http://www.thestar.co.uk/business/brazen-thieves-steal-sheffield-town-hall-brass-handrail-1-8039802 When I was walking in town earlier I noticed that the handrails outside of Canada House (opposite Ponds Forge) had also vanished. Does anyone know if they were stolen or if the owner has removed them now the building is empty?
  8. Thank you for sharing those maps, they're fantastic.
  9. Just out of curiosity, what was wrong with the Park Hill flats?
  10. I'm really just looking around and liked the look of the houses there. I currently live out in the suburbs and would like to be closer to the centre. Kelham could be a possibility but I'd rather have a house than a flat.
  11. Thank you everyone for your help. I think I'll look elsewhere, which is a shame really because, as Amazon123 mentioned, the area does have some lovely old houses.
  12. Hi, Does anyone have any experience of living in the Hanover Square / Broomhall Street are of Sheffield (S3)? Particularly in regard to crime, safety, noise etc. Many thanks
  13. Hi, If you want to jump across the border into Rotherham then you may be able to get space with RiDo (the Rotherham Investment and Development Office). They offer offices and workshops at discounted rates not far from Meadowhall - it's also possible to get the first six months rent free in certain circumstances: http://www.ridobusinesscentres.co.uk/offices-workshops If you'd rather stay in Sheffield then you can try UK Steel Enterprises who run an incubation centre in the city, near to West Street . I'm not sure about rent free periods, but you may be able to negotiate something: http://www.uksteelenterprise.co.uk/find-business-premises/south-yorkshire-sheffield Alternatively you could try Regus on Ecclesall Road, or a take a look on Rightove Commercial: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-property-to-let/find.html?locationIdentifier=POSTCODE%5E721693&insId=1&radius=1.0&areaSizeUnit=sqft&sortType=1 All the best
  14. Thank you for the information, I've seen these networks before - and a few others like them throughout the UK. They're not really the sort of thing I'm aiming for; they seem to focus on attracting more people in to purchasing a few buy-to-lets, with as much leverage as possible, using cash flow to service debt, and then hoping for a capital gain at some point in the future. I can't help but think that when interest rates move back toward the historical average level there will be a huge clear out of may of the BTL investors, and significant swings in property prices. My experience is in commercial banking, wealth management and investments (some relating to property) and I'm looking more toward significant developments running in to the high millions rather than a few BTL terraced properties. There are a few of us in an informal group at the moment considering forming an LLP to take advantage of some opportunities, and I thought I would see if there were any other such individuals on here - SF seems to have a large audience throughout the SCR.
  15. Hi, Thank you for your reply. My original post is somewhat vague. I'm really looking anyone who has a strong background in property finance, or even in development construction. The ultimate ideal would be an informal, or potentially more formal, grouping to share opportunities and expertise in development projects (from finance and SPV capitalisation ideas to construction best practice etc). Such a grouping could also engage together in development projects, with people contributing expertise, capital, or both.
  16. Hi, Is there anyone on this forum that is involved in property finance / investment in any significant way? Not so much people with a few buy-to-lets but those with strong knowledge of property finance, or commercial finance in general. Many thanks
  17. I think "Gamp" for an umbrella is pretty old and is actually a UK wide thing. It comes from the Dickens book 'Martin Chuzlewit'. Mrs Sarah Gamp was an alcoholic nurse who always carried an umbrella with her. When the book was published she and the umbrella became famous and people started referring to them as a 'Gamp'. Her character was in the recent Dickensian series on the BBC.
  18. Max, That’s great, many thanks for the information. I had a look on the SIV site but must have missed this. Thank you
  19. I appreciate that this can be seen as rather unhygienic, but it’s also the case that many studies over the years have shown access to animals etc when ill can significantly improve recovery rates. In the village where I grew up there used to be some sort of sanatorium, I think mainly for sick children who had suffered polio and the such. I have some old pictures that showed there were actually monkeys kept in the place! I have no idea where they came from but the hospital kept them and they were allowed to play on the wards with the sick children. Times have changed no doubt.
  20. Does anyone know of a fencing club / facility in Sheffield? Is there possibly anything at the Universities available to non-students? By fencing I mean the thing with swords, rather than selling stolen goods Thank you
  21. No problems. I noticed that on another thread you mentioned using FreeCompanyAccounts. I’m not sure if you’re aware but Companies House recently updated their website (still in Beta mode) and you can now search and download all of their records for free. Good luck with the search
  22. You just need to ask Edgar (the Americans seem to have a bizarre habit of anthropomorphising things). The link is: [i can't post the link until I've made 5 posts on SheffForum. If you Google search 'SEC Edgar' it will be top of the list] Type in the company name and click on the corresponding hyperlink. To find the company accounts you need to look for documents that are tagged as either 10K (for annual accounts) or 10Q (for quarterly accounts) All the best
