  1. To be honest I've started tuning into TalkRadio for breakfast. Toby's breakfast format seemed to have changed quite a few years ago, seemingly concentrating on dreary local "news", unless there's a big UK news story. Currently it's pretty poor without him IMO. Then again, Rony's show is/was dire (is it still on ? Maybe his listeners have become ethereal)
  2. He's been online here saying he's been busy on the Wentworth gig and taking time off. I don't see anything other than a freelance guy taking a holiday at his own expense. It's rather insulting that radio sheffield don't allow the presenters of his breakfast show to say "standing in for Toby Foster" though. It only leads to speculation.
  3. Would strongly recommended Martin Halifax, self-employed builder, managed and renovated my old house to an excellent standard. Does work for one of the most reputable and long-standing renovators in Sheffield, Whitecliffes who’d I’d also recommend. Highly recommended – Contact me if you need a reference.
  4. Dan Green twittering on is slighly more improved than Paul Walker's ever-so-serious macho shouting about overpaid footballers for 10 minutes as if he's announcing some enoooormous gravitas piece. Worst still when the football season's over Walker then scours the UK for boring sporting news such as bowls so he can drone, drone, drone on for another 10 minutes to fill the airspace.
  5. Paul walkers crap. He's a sports presenter. That's it. He's operating as a filler until they get Someone else in. The whole radio station needs flushing.
  6. Paul Walkers got no chance. He's a good sports commentator, that's it. It's always perplexing to me tha when he's filling in he's quite relaxed, but as soon as the topic of football is shoe-in'ed into the show he suddenly developed some quasi-overlord, ever so serious voice, as if 22 all of course heterosexual ball kicking overpaid dimwits who chose to play this game in the same t shirt until some more cash is waved at their lumpy skulls is THAT important
  7. Got far to self-important and thought he was untouchable. I guess Rony thinks that he's untouchable too, but as mentioned earlier it usually happens sooner or later. Toby won't be bothered about the loss of cash, but the loss of publicity he gets by being a regular voice on RS... If he doesn't find somewhere soon he'll star to fade a little, and take a back seat running his comedy club.
  8. Stopped listening to Toby over a year ago after his show started to resemble a poor-mans Nationwide show, i.e., started reporting on banal crap in South Yorkshire masquerading as "interesting news items". A waste of talent, if I were Toby I'd leave, but then again it does give him a constant profile for his other activities in comedy.
  9. I dipped into Radio Sheffield last week whilst I was off. The breakfast show seems stuck in a BBC Nationwide-Style format, with tedious banal interviews with local people about trivial issues. Sorry, didn't listen to Roney, Paulette's good - But she don't have banf on about her husband. I think I caught that wazzock Jimmy Carol too, he's dreadful, and worse still thinks he's an actor !...... This is shocking :
  10. I only listened to Toby Foster, he used to be good fun, but someone decided to do local "twee" issues, so Toby has to chat to people who have a cat with 5 legs, or some old biddy who was refused curry sauce on her chips... It became SO boooring
  11. Hardly listen now, only to Toby Foster, though he seems to be on/off now as often as that Antonia Brickell bint was. Not sure what contract he's got with Radio Sheff but it always seems to be "random" when the guys on - I turn on the radio and maybe he's on, else that dreadful Paul Walker's doing his show. There's also some other bird who hangs around the microphone generally acting like a gobby slapper.
  12. How were the macaroons topdog ? I went there on Sunday, bought some myself - Yummy. I noticed the market had been "cut-down" somewhat - I guess because of the recession and people finding a lot of the stalls rather pricey, so stall holders may have stayed away. I bought a lemon tart for £2 and some macaroons. The amount you can sample seems to have dropped too, but if you ask they'll gladly give you a sample. I always like to have genuine stuff, and I know the branwurst stall uses Co-Op baps ! So that was a bit of a downer. Better off shopping at a few stores in Ecclesal rd IMHO.
  13. The Continental Market is here upto Sunday. Lots of interesting stalls but prices are very high, and quite a lot can be purchased cheaper in more upmarket supermarkets. The macaroons are lovely ! I always visit but rarely buy these days as they are too pricey, and if I want a fancy smoked garlic bulb I can get it for 80p at Waitrose, rather than £2 at the market ! Had a bad experience there a couple of years ago... Asked for a portion of mixed olives from his bowl...(various yummy queen olives, small onions, red peppers etc), I looked as the guy scooped 99% onions, then says £7.50. I quickly argued that was not on ! You filled it up with cheap onions and no olives ! He couldn't speak English after that or at least pretended too ! I walked away ! Then I go to the nut stall and ask for just few ounces of cashews, the guy just scoops a RIGHT shovelful into a bag ! "Thank you, that is six punds".. NO, JUST AROUND 2 OUNCES *SMALL* PLEASE... Didn;t work....I was well p***sed off and just walked away.
  14. I totally agree with you Dizzyblond, I've given up listening to Toby now due to the chap who reads the football "news". He reads out each item with the severity of someone reporting on some national tragedy. He seems to come on just after the news, about twenty-past, then half-past, *then* at ten-two goes on some boring ramble for a good ten minutes. Toby's not that bothered, he's getting paid whilst someone else fills in his airtime. It amazes me that after the footy season finishes, this guy then managed to fill his slot up with "the latest hockey news", "International Swimming" or "The Underwater Jelly knitting Championships !!"... Fella, if you're reporting on these now, why not report on them alon with the Footy stuff eh !! Oh, that's why, you just want to hold onto your slot ! What astounds me is Everard comes on with very serious news items which last for two, maybe three minutes. Then that sarky opinionated football "newsreader" manages to drag out pityful footy stories into 5-10 minutes...
  15. Has Toby left BBC Radio Sheffield (now) ? Just that they've had the changeover, and a few days later Toby wasn't on the box. The "stand in" for a number of days kept saying 'your listening to Bigger at Breakfast, standing in for Toby Foster' or such like. Nowadays the stand-in just implies it's his own show now (think it's Seth Bennett)... Seth's allright, 'though delivers his football reports with such serious severity you'd think football was as important as a 9/11 event.
  16. I hear Roger (ex. Yellow Lion landlord) is now about to open another pub in Aston (bought by the owner of the Robin Hood), not sure where it is. Yellow Lion still looks derelict...
  17. I heard the Bluebell in Swallownest is re-opening next week, the landlord was on radio Sheffield this morning. No news on the Yellow Lion yet, shame, it has the potential to be a super pub, but let down by Enterprise Inns and a poor landlord.
  18. Looks like they both closed last week ? Shame about the Bluebell, good pub, good atmosphere, reasonably priced beer. Can't really say the same for the Yellow Lion, after Dave left the new landlord seemed to bring the pub down, half-painted, expensive booze, poor food. If I recall, the last twelve months the Yellow Lion pub was empty of an evening and many regulars disapeared.
  19. Hi, I livein Aston, looking for a good nearby gym, anyone recommend the new gym at Swallownest ?
  20. Any chance of getting Jerry Sadowitz up here at any point ? I guess he's tricky to work with, but you can contact him via his site (I think he dropped all his agents !!!)
  21. Looks like this year I'll be booking a few tickets for Rich Hall, erm.. That's it. Spoke to a few friends who are also a little disspointed in line-up, and some of the ticket prices for some of the lesser known acts and them being in a small venue are between £10-£15 are a little excessive. Also,a few same-old-faces turning up isn't very inspirational. Admitedly, getting a few big names rocket the ticket price to over twenty quid, and also depends on the acts availability and venue size (Jimmy Carr is not going to play the Memorial Hall given the seat receipts/performance fee he'd receive). Shame we couldn't get Sadowitz, very very difficult to deal with though.
  22. Rony is BRILLIANT !... If you're over 70 and going batty. Otherwise he is now a rather tired old man, with no new ideas, relying on the rants and reminices of boring old farts. I half-listened to his phone in show, most old bags and silly old coffin dodgers would ignore the topic set by Rony, and instead rant about how aweful their pension was/dog **** on their pavements/bus times. I stopped listening totally after he did the forum thing where the nearly-deads would tell listeners that they had "just made a pie", "going to water my window plants" or "stroking my pussy". Dead radio. Rony's audience must be dwindling now, not through crap radio, but the fact there all gradually being thrown 6 foot under. Bring back Toby in the afternoon for 3 hours.
