  1. Hi I'm trying to find some information on the above mentioned House. I have found from census returns that my ancestors, Jonas Cotton & family, lived here from 1901,1911 & then listed as his address at time of death in 1919. On the 1891 census he's a assistant pork butcher. living at Nunnery Farm. But in 1901 he is living at Woodbourn House listed as a Stone Quarry Garter (Employer). strangly on 1911 census he's just a colliery labourer, his son listed as a colliery deputy. I guess they would have been working at the Nunnery Colliery? Not sure how much longer after Jonas' death the family remained at the house but would love to know any information about the house, where abouts on woodbourn road it would have stood, as I doubt very much it still stands given the redevelopment of the area. Kind regards Martin
  2. Hi Momoran & others, can anyone possible tell me who lived at 115 Hastilar Road in 1946. This is the address given as place of deathon my gr-grandmother death certificate 15th february 1946. She actually lived at 55 Manor Oaks Close. Cheers Martin
  3. To me the letters on the building do look like C & B, which are the initials of the man mentioned on the back! have searched the 1911 White's directory for Sheffield and no charles Buxton barman/lics-vict. so dont believe it's Sheffield. does anyone have access to the 1908 Kelly's directory for Leeds/Bradford area?? given the Tetley carving above the door mentioned earlier? Have also checked 1911 census briefly (not purchased any) and dont look too promising finding him easy, only 1 with wife Margaret as mentioned on pg1 1891 census, but thats in Leek Staffordshire.

Sheffield Indexers.

I have well over 100 Cotton's in my family tree, however i have found no apparent link to Leonard, have done a bit of Digging and found that Leonard Snr was born c1888 in Nottingham, his father was Herbert Cotton b c1851 Sheffield. This may help anyone else out there with Cotton links to tie them in with people in there tree. Martin

  10. That would fit quite nicely with the Fleetwoods as they were nearly all from Grenoside, will update you when i find more details. Have just found them on 1891 census they have 5 Children but also living with them are 2 nephews Arthur & Orlander Housley aged 19 & 17 respectively if this helps, although they are mistranscribed as Haisley. Orlanda is living with them in 1901 census too. Thanks Martin

  23. They weren't aussie but had just returned from living out there for a few years, there youngest brother was born out there., he joined Navy in June 71 after leaving Parkhouse,I know his nickname was skippy because he'd been in Australia, but not sure if this was in Navy or at School, he stayed in Navy for 18 years he now lives at Hackenthorpe, near his best friend who he first met at ParkHouse Reg Hague,Phillip would have left the year before.

  25. The sad thing is now kids get caned everyday at school, but not the wooden stick kind. If punishments like this were still allowed then there might be a bit more discipline installed into the youth of today, and maybe gun/knife crime would not be as high as it is. Because seriously did being caned turn us all into the monsters that we have on our streets today???? i think not
