It's not that bad. Avoid 4 or 5 main areas (all the places they've stacked the immigrants) along with Shiregreen and Parsons Cross and it's okay.

The Star reports are a bit odd. The drugs turf war angle seems perfectly believable

Once you understand the dynamics you can pretty much categorise most of what you read in the Star into two main areas:

- Demand-side crime (users) these include things like burglary, muggings, prostitution, fraud, shoplifting, begging. Virtually all these crimes are acquisitive in nature.

- Supply-side crime (dealers) these are usually crimes like vehicle theft for logistics, gun crimes, knife crimes, patch wars. Most of the crimes in this category involve the application of violence or a show of violence to instill fear. Either can be deadly. If you're a dealer and a rival disrupts your supply chain you can't turn to the police for arbitration so violence is used to settle disputes.

So the next time you read about a [charity box being stolen] or [shots being fired] you'll be able to categorise it yourself.

I'm sorry if this is news to anyone.

The area is lost. It's a ghetto slum.

Why are people bothered? If they want to go to war with each other let them.

Which area?

This incident will not grow into a sheffield drugdealdrama. Spital hill rarely mentioned on forum, a little thing happened and everybody start screaming drugwars.

Another perfect example how a little thing is completely blown out of proportion and dramatised. If you are bored move to London where the real stuff happens. This thing in Sheffield not even mentioned on national news and this forum goes off as if this is some American ghetto.

That's correct, but it is perturbing for the the people who live in the vicinity, so the police maybe need to divert some of their limited resources away from octogenarian environmentalist peaceniks and deal with the gang issue on Spital Hill. Sooner rather than later, if they don't mind.

Ageism (also spelled "agism") is stereotyping and discriminating against individuals or groups on the basis of their age. Why did you need to mention 'Octagenarians' in the sentence ?
