There was a while when they tried to restrict it - but they then realised that without me, the takings were well down

 

I honestly dont see the problem - in reality its just 1 or 2 people banging on about it because they want to act outrageously in a public place.

What I would really like to see is something different on the scene - I was in Dempseys for Karaoke last night and - whilst it was good as usual (hope you got back ok SpiderPete!) - it was the same activities, same faces, same singers (including moi!) ... it would be really nice to have something different to frequent on the gay scene also and in the city centre too e.g. a gay friendly chill out coffee shop mayb ewith internet access and facilities for holding poetry and art nights - Im sure Tyranna and myself would like this also !

 

Also I note that a lot of the bigger cities such as London and manchester have specialised gay groups - what about gay walking, writers, artists or other interests groups ?? I guess its up to us/someone to get these groups off the ground .. I only know of one in Sheffield, the gay dining group, run by someone called Paul and advertised in the Telegraph, not sure if this fizzled out I must admit I never got round to going since I got the impression he organised it just to find a boyfriend ! I might be wrong !

 

Any ideas, suggestions welcomed - what about a gay walk out to Derbyshire some Saturday by bus so we could take in the local hostellries as well ! ?

Actually you are wrong, we do need some "gay only" bars, can you imagine the outrage if 2 gay men started kissing and cuddling in a "straight" pub, all you need is a bunch of drunken yobs and they start kicking off, it does happen you know.

I know what you mean here Pete. It certainly doesn't bother me, but I know it does a lot of people, though it shouldn't be that way obviously.

 

I remember a few times hearing stories of lads getting beaten up outside Fuel (never saw it myself so not sure if entirely true) just because they were coming out of a gay nightclub - apparently a few times lads were waiting around the corner under those stairs that lead round to Sunwin House just for the sake of hitting someone because they're different to them. Until that changes - we need places like Dempseys/Lions Lair/Affinity etc etc etc so that LGBT people have somewhere "safe" to go.
