Herbert
Yes that's right, according to Look North of Sheffield AKA Look Leeds we now have this distinction. The council has agreed today that development can start on the site at Tinsley to turn it into an industrial estate. Isn't this a disgrace as far as the future of the city goes? diggory comp
we are spoilt for choice when it comes to airports. leeds/ bradford doncaster east midland humberside manchester these are all reachable in around one hour (or less) from sheffield. Longcol
Not really - the airport at Doncaster is as accessible from Sheffield as a lot of other cities airports are from their city centre. And when the airport really takes off then Leeds / Bradford (yes, Leeds only have a half share in a pretty crappy airport) could well face closure IMHO. upinwath
It was tried and they failed. Why do you think it's a good idea now when another far better option is available less than an hour away ?

But when we had it no-one used it. It's a waste of money when we have a number of other airports nearby. It's nota disgrace as far as teh future of teh city goes - a disgrace would be where we carry on keeping a facility open that is primarily used by SYP's Helicopters. Heyesey
Yes that's right, according to Look North of Sheffield AKA Look Leeds we now have this distinction. Which city in the world should have this distinction then, if not us?
mifsit
From Sheffield to Doncaster airport is a lot easier than Central London to Gatwick ever was when I was down that way. Sheffield could do with a decent rail link to Donny airport though

To be honest i doubt sheffield will ever get a proper airport never mind what people do, we tried once and failed misrably.

No one used it because it didn't go anywhere. It didn't go anywhere beacause it wasn't long enough for long haul or transatlantic aircraft. I still think for a city the size of Sheff it's a big negative when it comes to commerce and development, regardless of how close other airports are. Bikertec
What I see is a 10 year old airport that cost god knows how much, that may be used in the future being demolished for another developement. Surly with all the areas in sheffield why does it have to be built there, what makes that area so special. Another way for Sheffield to waste money.
