SheffieldForum 961 #1 Posted March 14 Plans for a new tram-train stop in Rotherham have been approved. The new stop at Magna Science Adventure Centre will be the first addition to the network since 2018. Network Rail and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) said the stop at Templeborough would help residents access employment, walking and cycling opportunities. The £6.6m scheme will be funded from the Sheffield City Region's £166m Transforming Cities Fund. Two new staggered low-level tram-train platforms will be installed at Magna, one for each line, connected by a footbridge.
 Share this content via...

This could be why it's so expensive? 🤷♂️ Tram-Train currently runs on a single train line past the back of Magna. I don't see the point in this venture tbh. There's no demand for it, there's already public transport links on Sheffield Road so there's already access for employment. How is it going to provide cycling opportunities when you can't take them on board? How is it going to provide walking opportunities? Who wants to go walking around an industrial area? The only effect it will have is that it will take away from the bus services thst currently run through Templeborough. It's just a further waste of taxpayer's money by Coppard & Co. SheffieldForum 961 #7 Posted March 14 For context the recent improvements at Dore and Totley Station reportedly cost Network Rail ~£20m (to build a second platform and bridge with the line upgrade, signage, etc).
 Share this content via...

They are increasingly having events, conventions and exhibitions there, too - so it's probably a good idea to link that up for passengers from Rotherham, Sheffield and further afield. I know I've not attended certain events there because the travel situation is generally awful.
 Share this content via...
