A £35 fine is “vilification”? Give us a break. It’s just a mild reminder to do it right in future. for the majority of drivers the new signage wasn't on a theory test Instead of drivers looking at the road for safety they now have to read and instantly understand road signs made to confuse people into paying a substantial fine
 Share this content via...

Maybe drivers should have to re-sit their test every five years or so to ensure knowledge and compliance with current laws?
 Share this content via...

As a point of interest, there are also BIG road markings that say 'BUS GATE'. 1
 Share this content via...

If you think the fine is unjustified - appeal. The fact 'nobody is harmed is irrelevant, and you should observe the quite large signage.
 Share this content via...
SheffieldForum 957 #78 Posted March 27 There are signs aproaching the roundabout, signs coming off the roundabout, signs between the roundabout and the casino junction, signs just after the casino junction, road markings on the approach to the bus gate, a huge sign showing the turning route, signs at the bus gate. If somebody misses a sign, then I can understand there might be something wrong with it... if somebody misses all these signs then it is on them.
 Share this content via...

By the same token, at the time I was learning to drive, and during the test, I wasnt allowed to drive on a motorway. So are you saying I shoul;d know nothing about how to drive on a motorway?
 Share this content via...

Bus lane / gate signs have been around for decades. As others point out, it’s your responsibility as a driver to keep up to date with the rules of the road and any changes to signs / markings. They are in the Highway Code, which you can access for free online. If you can’t read the signs and drive safely, maybe you should hand your license in ( if you have one). As previously mentioned, I don’t think anyone would see £35 as a “substantial” fine. The amounts ( set by government ) haven’t changed for many years and aren’t as much of a deterrent as they used to be. In London, they are much higher. The money goes into the general taxation pot and could be spent on anything the government funds. Amazing how millions of motorists seem to get around just fine using the signs provided. If you don’t like the currently available signs, let the government know. Let us know how you get on….
 Share this content via...
