Cannon Pulled From The River Don

Recommended Posts

Magnet fishermen have pulled an old cannon out of the River Don on Ball Street bridge adjacent to the old Dixons factory.

How old is it is the question ?

If it's 200 years + it may have been washed down stream by the flood of 1864

Will watch this story with interest.

I want to see the size of their magnets.  Must be bloody enormous?

Let's hope it is an old cannon & not a similar story to the one a few years ago who believed they'd lifted a English Civil War cannonball out of the Don which turned out to be the ball weight off the top of a fly-press.

I wondered about the magnets myself. Must be very powerful ones to lift that up.

They used a Tirfor on it .

It could be a reject dumped in the river so the faulty metal could not be reused .
