sgtkate
I cannot believe no one has said this yet. You need help. You cannot communicate with the dead. There are no ghosts. Stop wasting your time on this. If you really are serious and believe it to be true then please speak to your doctor who can refer you for help. Have you told this to the Pope? ---------- Post added 19-04-2017 at 11:09 ---------- It has been said (post #12). They've also been advised to go the GP (#21) I hope that they are just having us on, or it is indeed quite worrying and they should seek some kind of help. I can understand wanting to believe that you can communicate with the dead when you have suffered a family tragedy, but don't let grief cloud rationality. Aren't they simply describing all religion? Yet no one is telling their local vicar to go and see a GP. Why are people ok with believing that God talks to the religious but when someone mentions communicating with the dead you all jump on them and near enough accuse them of insanity? sgtkate
Any religion is a mental illness. I'd be inclined to agree, but find the hypocracy of commentators astounding. There's every chance Ron Hubbard is as correct as the Pope.
andrejuan
If that is the case then family members should not be using someone else's account to post. Why on earth not? It is perfectly acceptable to have a family account/login. Back on topic.

I generally consider people who think God is talking to them to be somewhat delusional as well....
Guest
Aren't they simply describing all religion? Yet no one is telling their local vicar to go and see a GP. Why are people ok with believing that God talks to the religious but when someone mentions communicating with the dead you all jump on them and near enough accuse them of insanity? Steady on. I think the possibility of God talking to vicars is about as likely as ghosts talking to our friend here. And while a pathological explanation might not be the most likely one, it's certainly a possibility. Possible explanations for the existence of this thread and the phenomena described in it, in decreasing order of likeliness: - a jolly jape; <-- my favourite - aural pareidolia, stemming from a natural predisposition for pattern recognition, an admirably active imagination, and the motivation to give the resulting perceptions a paranormal explanation; - a scam; - some combination of the above, with various degrees of benign or malignant intent. - mental illness, psychological or organic - ghosts Hearing benign voices isn't that uncommon. Perceived communication with benign voices isn't that uncommon. Those with rich and vivid active imaginations, who've spent a great deal of time in that inner world honing that imagination, sometimes report a process of internal dialogue which manifests as conversation. Writers, for example, who delve into a fertile inner life, to create vivid characters; and religious folk, those who spend a great deal of time immersed in the inner dialogue of prayer, sometimes report hearing the voice of God (the content and the conversational partner depends, of course, on the cultural context). What's more likely: fictional characters talking to their authors about tricky plot points? Various gods answering questions posed in prayer? Or are imaginative and committed people thoroughly immersing themselves in the inner world we all inhabit from time to time and indulging in a particularity rich inner dialogue? Alas, hearing voices, especially hectoring, commanding and critical voices, can also be a symptom of something more malignant: severe depression, Alzheimer's disease, temporal lobe anomalies, and schizophrenia, for example. Hearing meaning in white noise is akin to hearing Paul Young singing about taking a piece of meat with him every time he goes away, or Creedence Clearwater Revival doing the same about how there's a bathroom on the right. Harmless, understandable, and amusing. Long conversations with the characters in the white noise? Sounds like a potential script for an episode of Supernatural, or, if it's intrusive, incessant and disturbing, the subject for a conversation with a medic. How sane people can fall for such idiotic rubbish is beyond me.
