Searching for an old friend - Steven Parkin
andrejuan replied to JonS1959's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Not really. From conversations I had it turned out two Stephen Parkins were at Jordanthorpe at the same time. A few remembered the same one I remembered but hadn't seen him in years. We all said we would ask around though so keep watching. -

He was in my year at Jordanthorpe, not seen him since but has it happens, I am going to a birthday party tonight with quite a few old Jordo lads. I'll ask around see if anyone kept in touch. -
Hopefully you will take it to the South Yorks Retro meet 1st Tues of the month?

Used it many times, it has been a godsend when other options have not been possible. -
The car sales place halfway up Rutland Road is shared by a mechanic, he rents out a ramp by the hour I'm told (used to be a sign on the footpath)

Many happy returns. -
Yeah, I've been watching for a while. Varied and interesting.

The BBC is a bargain no doubt, The quality is good generally and exceptional on certain genres. My problem is being forced to pay for it, I think it should be like Sky etc. a choice, and I would still pay for it voluntarily.

Know anyone who is like a Coronation St. character?
andrejuan replied to poppet2's topic in Entertainment Chat
No, people like that don't exist, I say no, people like that don't exist. -
True, and my OP is incorrect, I put Hagg Hill instead of Stephen Hill. ( I call the whole stretch Hagg although it has three different names along it's length) My bad. The stoppage was at the top of Stephen Hill, Hagg Hill was still accessible from a couple of other routes but later there was indeed a car in the wall on Rivelin bottom, possibly from sliding down the hill? The crash at Gleadless happened after the police had blocked the bottom off, as they are already there when the car crashes in the video.

It's the first time I have seen this so asking if it is new. Today when the snow/roads were bad, the police were blocking people attempting to go down Hagg Hill, and also at a hill in Gleadless (didn't stop one car coming to grief though) and probably more locations. I am not criticising, although it is a tad (nanny state). There was a time when we had to judge dangerous situations ourselves, and I for one wouldn't have tackled those roads in them conditions. Surely the Police can't be expected to save us all from ourselves on top of everything else they have to do that is not proper Police work.

That is very true, it cured me of filling the loft last time I moved, sadly everything else has filled up to the point where I now dread the thought of moving house, because of all the stuff that might come in handy one day :-)
-
Very true. But then, that is paid for by the football club and will no doubt be "overtime" for the officers?
-
Try doing some Googling on the percentage of police officers off sick on full pay at any one time. If the issues all these officers are suffering from could be helped, maybe we would have thousands more officers on the streets at no extra cost? Personally I would ringfence the police budget and make it protected, I would also want some efficiency measures implementing.

Earl Street. There was talk of moving but I don't know if he did.

Jepson and Co on East Bank Road will deal with the public, although I don't know how they compare price wise. I have used them when I wanted an unusual size. -

Planning permission went in for a house. If someone has since asked permission for something else I must have missed it. http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/new-era-for-cop-shop-as-house-plans-approved-1-7285404
