Alcoblog   10 #25 Posted September 13, 2016 Yes, its because they have not been standardise across suppliers in the UK which realistically renders them a waste of money.  Pretty much the same as happened to rail guage, time keeping, voltage supply, video tape, paint colours, car production, packaging size, paper size … the list is endless. Best to wait for the meters to be standardised using reliable technolgy before bothering with it. Pretty useless at the mo, won't catch on as it is.  ---------- Post added 13-09-2016 at 15:20 ----------  If someone turns your TV off it's annoying. If someone turns all your house off including the fridge it's worrysome. If you have perhaps something like a oxygen machine for breathing issues it's very worrying.  If someone turns off an entire load section of the grid, then the grid can become instable.  Smart meters are a seriously bad idea until this sort of thing is properly addressed - but all the utilities say oh it's totally secure.  But they wont show you the code that it runs on - so no ones got any change of viewing it to see what the security is like.  Not if they're watching that game that involves kicking a ball about, or people in underpants trying to run a little bit faster than anyone else for a whole bloody month (or any 'celebrity' garbage). I used to turn the pub telly off whilst everyone was shouting at the screened football, just for a bit of quiet (when those Seiko watches first came out with the remote on them). Great fun! Unfortunately, it'd now be pretty much as easy to turn off some household's electricity using similar technology.
 Share this content via...
