Parson cross. its not nice.

Recommended Posts

Oh for gods sake, open your eyes,

They're wide open.

not all single parented kids turn into bad kids,

Never said they did.

not all kids whos parents are on benefits turn into bad kids either.

Never said they did either.

My father was brought up on a council estate and made himself into a very successful business man through grafting hard and believing in himself,

Yes, very good - as I said, it's harder for kids from deprived areas to make something of themselves. Your dad did very well, although I can't really see your point.

how can these kids from the 'rougher' parts of the city dream when people are constantly throwing the fact that their parents have no money down their throats.

No-ones throwing anything down anyone's throats. It's all about recognising and ACCEPTING a problem, thus paving the way to finding solutions.

Do a search for crime statistics and my username - I've quoted them often enough. Dore, Ecclesall and Fulwood have the lowest crime rates in the city and are all well below the city-wide crime average. On the other hand, areas with large proportions of council housing have high crime rates (and this includes ex-council houses too)

t020 - in threads were the following statistical information has proven useful:

I refer you to the official government statistics provided to the Sheffield council as at 2002 (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-cit...about-the-area), in particular the 'Indices of Deprivation' section, which clearly shows that of the 3 wards in South West Sheffield (Ecclesall, Dore and Hallam) that Ecclesall is the LEAST deprived ward, and therefore also the least deprived in Sheffield. Of 8,414 wards in England, Ecclesall is the 8,105th least deprived.:

Indices of Deprivation....................................... .............................. Ecclesall Ward.... Hallam Ward.... Dore

Index of Multiple Deprivation Rank (out of 8414 English wards)* ...... 8105................ 7309............ 4369

Edit: To further clarify:

Ward.................. Deprivation Score...... Deprivation Rank

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Burngreave.............. 71.51 ................... 60th

Manor...................... 70.79 .....................76th

Park ........................ 68.90 .................... 90th

....etc.......

Dore......................... 16.23...................4,369th

Hallam........................7.44 ...................7,309th

Broomhill....................5.34................. ... 7,953rd

Ecclesall ................... 4.70.....................8,105th

Ranks are across entire country out of the 8,414 wards, source http://neighbourhood.statistics.gov....p.asp?dsid=474

I presume it's these?

:)

Note: The Hallam ward is not in existance (02/05/06)

The parts of Parson Cross ive seen along with other Sheffield Council Estates remind me of some **** poor South American Country sometimes. Not the sort of place i would want to ever live.

Now before i get a bashing for that comment,im sure they must be good & bad areas on every estate,it’s just that ive not seen any for myself.

I agree.  There are some very quick to tar all with the same brush that live in Parsons Cross.  There’s good and bad everywhere including the likes of Dore and Beauchief

But some hide behind the trappings of respectable neighbourhood High fences .

My ex father-in-law was from Parson Cross.  He was a very hard working and respectful gentle man who I regarded as a trusted friend.  He never had a bad word to say about anyone, even devilish and deceitful members of his own family!

I also know a chap who is a very intelligent and hard-working individual.  He has been in the military and in his civvy career latterly before retirement, he was in banking.   He is a very kind and helpful fellow and recently told me he was brought up on Parson Cross.

I think all areas of our city have had their fair share of villains and rogues.  Not all of these types come from council estates.

I think we should all remember that some rogues and villains wear business suits and drive expensive cars too.

What are people’s opinions on Parsons Cross nowadays?  I’ve heard it’s on the up recently with families looking to move there.
