FORE
Was and IS a great landmark for walkers to get their bearings from the distance.
Aribanne
I have loved this thread, and I'm speechless at the selfless dedication of the OP in pursuing this remarkable goal. I note that it's already attracted a migrating penguin, although maybe some steps to access the nesting box might have helped. Well done ! I raise a cup of Yorkshire tea to you

I raise a cup of Yorkshire tea to you Well, do you know? … I hadn't even noticed that, not even when I was processing the negatives! Although not especially renowned for being twitchy, it does to me look remarkably like a penguin of the genus Spheniscidae Arborius Hillsboriaeii! Good job I didn't install ladders to the bird box! Alcoblog
Brilliant idea Alco, you could insert the battery for it in the poles box. All I need is a nesting flock of battery hens. ---------- Post added 05-04-2016 at 09:50 ---------- Don't worry, as you will know, this is the only penguin that can fly. They can't fly as such, mainly because of the tags (police ones, not bird ones). They're also under a police curlew at the moment, which keeps a watchful eye on them from above. They're very good at hitching lifts though.
nightrider
I'm a bit limited as to what I can do at the moment Mr.B, due mainly to being stuck in South Wales. Hopefully, work on my Stanedge Pole will recommence after next weekend, although coloured ribbons aren't really gonna happen in all honesty. This is a serious project of mine, which I intend to carry out with due diligence. Apart from a specially made waterproof 'AB' flag and maybe a bird box, the pole will be as true to it's predecessor as my skills allow. I have toyed with installing a light on the top to guide otherwise lost ramblers, but can't really think of a suitable way of powering it. I thought of using a car battery, but don't think my girlfriend would be too chuffed, due to the fact you cant bump start automatics. You need a secondary pole covered in solar panels. Then just rig a wire between them.
DUFFEMS
If that's really a Hillsborough penguin in the picture he'll be sizing up yer pole to nick off with it, they're light on their feet this species, they don't need wings!
