Its never really truly been a private business though has it...just an accounting fiddle by the chancellor to keep it off the government debt book. Trams will be running on both Boxing Day and New Years Day with no public subsidy and charging normal fares! Likewise trains on New Years Day. dutch Posted December 24, 2015 Share Posted December 24, 2015 I will just be able to make it to Cineworld tonight before the tram stops and will get a ride back later with a friend. Even cycling is unfortunately not a safe option for me anymore and without public transport, walking, friends, taxis are the only option to travel safely. I can understand a reduction in 'rush hour' services to mirror the number of workers who choose to take some annual leave at Christmas time, but the early finishes pretty much foul up many folk's social life. Both TM Travel and Stagecoach have made attempts to launch a trial network that has failed. This is why we don't have them. Sheffield people seem happy to use taxis, which are plentiful. When I asked the driver yesterday why they could not help me and others out a little longer on Christmas eve he became very angry and shouted, "are we supposed to work all the time?" I did not respond but was thinking that even on a normal weekday they cannot work half of the time. At least that is what it looks like now.
