mossdog   10 #25 Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) It must have been a mistake in the 1965 directory as Davy's was next door. Peter Pell's was in the building that had formerly been the Hillsborough Inn, No 2 Holme Lane (here is a link to a picturesheffield.com photo). The 1971 directory correctly shows Peter Pell at No 2 Holme Lane..........the picture also shows Boots next in line!..........I used to buy bags of plaster of Paris there and rubber moulds to make toby jugs, then paint them and hope to sell them, (for a pittance).Across the road was Monty Thomas's where I eventually worked as a TV engineer! ---------- Post added 12-07-2015 at 19:41 ----------  It must have been a mistake in the 1965 directory as Davy's was next door. hillsbro   33 #30 Posted July 13, 2015 It was facing Hillsborough Park in the block where the Chinese Restaurant stands...Quite right - Fred Erick was at 135-137 Middlewood Road before moving to 38 Infirmary Road in c. 1962. stpetre   12 #35 Posted July 16, 2015 Just salt and caramel - nothing else!Me too!.  Yes that what I thought about 'Burdall's 'and the Hillsborough Barracks connection or maybe Carter's -they of Attercliffe Road- what with 'Sailor Boy' custard powder and other concoctions they had. hillsbro   33 #36 Posted July 17, 2015 .....was Burdalls based in the old Hillsborough Barracks at one time?...Yes. The company declined after Herbert Burdall died in 1982 (though the gravy salt was made - elsewhere - until 2000)....What was piquancy...Salt. A good example of shrewd, creative marketing!.
