Armed Forces in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

All I know in Sheffield is the Territorial Army on Manor Top.

But what about Hillsborough Barracks, was that ever one?

I know we used to have many but now not so sure any more.

This can be for any type of special forces, navy, air, cadets...

There is the Somme Barracks on West Street, on the corner by the University Tramstop. There is an officers training corps in there organised by the University.

The Hillsborough Barracks were indeed built as a proper army barracks in 1848. It was used until 1930 and in the 80s became what it is today (Not sure what went on in between).

My dad used to live on Park Hill Flats around the 70's onwards and joined the sea cadets.

As are the Yorkshire Regiment (4th bat).

There's also the Signals based up at Manor Top and Royal Engineers at Norton/Greenhil.
