harvey19
it has been stated before on this thread that £2m is cheap to police a major parties conference. Would you prefer major political parties to recruit their own security staff instead of relying on the police ? ECCOnoob
Do you honestly think that there have not been protesters outside the City Hall over the past 70 plus years. Of course there has many times. It has never been deemed necessary to have an area fenced off for if an emergency occurs inside. Im sure there has but health and safety laws were probably not as strict then. Plus following the recent problems with student protests, civil uprising in other countries they are probably not going to take any chances when a major political event is taking place in the city. Get used to it becuase there will be a lot more precautions made around the entire city that weekend. This is just the start. Lets face it, god forbid anything did happen, but if it does the same people whinging about police costs on here now will be stright on here whinging about lack of police action and injuries and damages after the event. But do you not see my point. If you and I were at a a sell out concert at the City Hall. And an emergency were to occur there would not be anywhere cordoned off for us to go to. Why should it be any different for the Lib Dems. If latest Health and Safety rules specify a cordened off area it should apply to every one not just the choicen few. harvey19
. They have more influence in the running of the country than other political parties apart from the Conservatives and therefore it could be argued that they have more right to be classed as major than other parties eg Labour. Don't you agree ? Edited February 25, 2011 by harvey19

What has that got to do you with an emergency inside the City Hall. It could be a fire, a power failure a false alarm, etc all these would mean an emergency evacuation. Other than the Lib dem conference there would not be acordoned off area for the audience to go too, unless it is going to be the norm from now on. Maybe for the safety of the politicians from protesters ? Remember what happened to the Royals in London ?
