lolli_pop   10 #26 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Well it was certainly stated on the news that drivers would be stopped and fined if they hadn't cleared their vehicles properly, wether thay're laws or not.  They can't fine you if it's not the law. You can't be fined for breaking rules made up by people on the telly.  They can fine you under the Construction & Use regs. HeadingNorth   11 #32 Posted December 1, 2010 There is no law which specifically states "you must not drive with snow on the roof."  However, if the police judge it to be a danger to other road users, they can clobber you for driving without due care and attention, or some other existing law. I don't know exactly which one, or what fine it would carry.
 Share this content via...
peak4   282 #33 Posted December 1, 2010 highway code 229 Before you set off you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows you MUST ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users check your planned route is clear of delays and that no further snowfalls or severe weather are predicted  [Laws CUR reg 30, RVLR reg 23, VERA sect 43 & RV(DRM)R reg 11]  Thay are not laws.:roll:. Since when could you get nicked for not checking your route?.  Alex, just for your interest, since the above from lectrospin was quoted from the Highway Code, the word Must is relevant.  See Page 3 of this section  Many of the rules in the Code are legal requirements, and if you disobey these rules you are committing a criminal offence. You may be fined, given penalty points on your licence or be disqualified from driving. In the most serious cases you may be sent to prison. Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT.’ In addition, each rule includes an abbreviated reference to the legislation which creates the offence.
