Well, mel, ;) I think you ought to be sacked as a forum member, for omitting the poll-choice of "What would an illegal immigrant call it?"

hehehe ;)

AV equipment

Stereo - it has two two channel sound

HiFi - it has high fidelity sound

etc...

You wouldn't say "put some music on the Dolby surround sound 5.1" now would you, if you did i'd be one of them laughing.

MIDI (? eh) - "MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), pronounced /ˈmɪdi/) is an industry-standard protocol defined in 1982[1] that enables electronic musical instruments such as keyboard controllers, computers, and other electronic equipment to communicate, control, and synchronize with each other." from wiki

Mini - refers to the style of enclosure design size

I just say, "put some music (tunes / something nice / news / xyz) on".

Anyway now I play most music using my DVD unit and TV, or use my PC through a Dolby card connected to an amplifier and various speakers.

midis also a form of design style, bigger than a mini........wonder if there was ever a biggy design style??

and yeah in the bedroom i play "choons" on the dvd player / tv convo........in fact my new dvd player for the bedroom has a 3 in 1 card reader AND a usb socket for playing music on various forms of media....not just on dvd / cd disc :P

yeah it just highlights the fact that to us (oldies) even though technologies marched on...our terms for things hasnt? we still have the old favourites that we cant let go of? lol

Indeed....

I still refer to new releases as "L.Ps" as well !

Am i really stuck in the 80's?

Is HiFi still the correct term?

if not whats the alternative?

alternatives i can thing of are

stereo

midi / mini etc (although mine are seperates not midi system)

Music System

Stereogram (lol, so 70's)

You forgot wind up grammaphone. :hihi:

I've still got one of those - the sort that's in a cabinet, with doors that you open to expose the speakers! It's currently buried under a pile of junk, somewhere, but I'll bet it still works.

My main source of music is my iPod - used with a speaker dock, so I don't keep getting the headphones lead tangled up in things.

They'd ignore me, it's a commercial corporation now, plugs for products on every show.
