  1. As much as I love love love, private transport companies, who take more in subsidies than national transport ever cost... I think this thread is a bloody farce every year you see less and less change out of a tenner from a day saver, so I need to use a banknote unless I was planning on teleporting home, because they don't do return tickets anymore, because that might cost less than an hours wages to get from A to B
  2. we should make a fish and chip map of sheffield I've never been to mosborough, so thats one I have missed
  3. How do they manage to stay so cheap at the courtyard in leeds? yes your maths and ideas are probably not too far wrong, but what I'm saying is they need a new business model. Dempseys, don't have to change because they are so popular, but Lions and Affinity ought to. Most people go out to wetherspoons, or yates, or the brown bear, or drink a couple of bottles of wine at home before going to dempseys, or affinity, or Lions. If Affinity and Lions had a drinks offer (maybe from lunchtime to ten PM) that could compete, those people would be spending their money in there, the places would be more busy, and if they were more busy, more people would want to be there. gay bars in Sheffield are empty most of the time whilst the other pubs are taking a steady trade... from GAYS! btw: sam smiths are cheap because they brew their own beer - maybe lions could do that, they have a great venue, and they could attract the real ale crowd, plus if they stocked a good variety of nice wines, that could also pull in a few people who wouldn't normally go out on the 'scene' as it is. if corp and leadmill were selling illegal alcohol I am sure that it would be all over the news.
  4. OK whilst the sentiment is close to the truth, the statement is awful. There is..., please say there 'are' no jobs even better you could say, 'there aren't any jobs' this would still be untrue though there aren't enough jobs There you would have hit the nail on the head. There aren't enough jobs. But that is not a problem just found in Sheffield. If you really want a job, your best prospects are emigrating to a country where there is a shortage of workers. houses, I'm not going to bother analyzing it. There aren't enough houses I would disagree, there are too many houses I think, and not enough flats. Certainly not enough council properties. Sheffield has the highest council waiting list in the country. plus it is full of student houses where six people are crammed into what used to be a two bed terrace, and also for some mad reason - hundreds of trendy £800 per month flats empty and to let. It's (is a shortening of it is) so requires an apostrophe. Full of Drugys do you mean druggies? people who take drugs? Yes, but no more or less than any other city. Its full of drunks Again I don't think it is any more or less than any other city. If you don't have a job, a house, and a circle of friends yet... PM me!
  5. If you are under 30 in Sheffield and have a job you are part of a shrinking minority. (If that's one job, for an employer which pays your whole income you might as well be chicken teeth) Most of my friends who work, have gone self employed, or are working in two or three part time jobs, only a handful are employed in one single job full time. But I think the advice I have read is spot on,
  6. try supermarkets, lidl usually have loads.
  7. Charles Clifford Hospital is always free, because it is a teaching hospital. Everywhere else you have to pay, but if it means a return bus journey, it could work out only saving you a couple of quid, from your local NHS dentist.
  8. If you mean bombed during the 2nd world war, Sheffield Was bombed repeatedly during the second world war because of the steel and coal.
  9. Top ten Chippies in Sheffield 1. The one inside Castle Market 2. Manor Top 3. Brenda's behind the moor 4. The new one on the corner of west street and division street 5 Adams (on commercial street, near ponds forge) 6 - 10 dont exist Have tried loads, but most of them are overpriced, and only any good for filling your belly up when you are starving. If you need to put ketchup on them then they aren't good chips!
  10. What Sheffield Gay Scene needs is a place that sells drinks that are cheap and tasty, plays a variety of music, and doesn't have snotty staff. if wetherspoons, corp, the leadmill, yates, and Sam Smiths' pubs can do it, why don't gay bars? if they did, they would be more busy, and make more money altogether surely?
  11. yates does £1 a pint on thursday nights and other promotions
  12. I can think of one that does cracking karaoke on a Monday weds and Friday bottom of the moor you ever been in?
  13. Oh and our largest physical exports are oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, and motor vehicles and parts. and no bugger in the rest of the world wants those... It makes you wonder how in the world someone in his position of power could make such ignorant statements... especially when we make most of their high tech weaponry, such as cruise missiles, and fighter jets.
  14. Britain is the second largest exporter of services in the world, Britain is the largest offshore producer of oil and gas in the world. Britain has the largest merchant fleet in the world. America has five times the population of Britain, but if Britain's economy or military were five times larger they would be bigger than that of America. We are but a poor island nation, who nobody envies.
  15. You can get tattoos in all-sorts of colours, but if darker skin has more pigment is it more difficult to dye? Would bleaching the area beforehand make for a better result, like you have to do with dark hair in order to dye it? You could use skin bleach with stencils to create tattoo backgrounds which are coloured later in layers with different inks, maybe set up a whole new business model. I don't really like tattoos though... someone who already has a tattoo shop can nick my idea if they want it.
  16. We agree Why not replace 'gay' with something that is really rubbish... that everyone hates... Thats sooo ??? (write your suggestion on a postcard and send it to Wanda Sykes)
  17. BTW This happens to me regularly from Kids and Adults
  18. BTW It happens to me regularly, and its kids and adults who do it.
  19. No, It's not OK and its not good. Because Gays are a minority that it is still mostly acceptable, and in many circles cool to make fun of, Gay became a universal insult in the 90's, especially among schoolkids. 'That's so Gay' took off afterwards But it is insulting, because it is build on insult and grown from it, and when kids (and by kids I mean Teenagers) say 'that's so gay' it they KNOW it isn't OK, how do I know? Because they have apologized to me for doing it, straight after saying it. Kids still use the gay as an insult, and teenagers use Gay as an insult. When I was at school Gay and every synonym (queer , homo, bum boy, batty, etc... etc...) were all insults, and they still are. Although the little girl in the OP didn't know what it meant, her parents should have chastised her for making fun of other kids for what music they like, and told her that when gay you say to mean rubbish it is a bad word that can hurt peoples feelings, and she shouldn't do it, and then punish her if she does it again. There was no need for any birds and the bees explanation of what gay means, (although I had an idea of what gay meant, mostly from TV and school, and it wasn't far off, and I was pretty naive compared to my peers.) Those of you think who that it doesn't have negative connotations only prove your own ignorance.

  21. Would anyone like rabbit and budgie manure? two rabbits and a budgie produce lots of manure believe it or not! if you want it there is always a big pile, (far too much for a couple of tomatoes and beans) its a shame to throw it away PS this is a friend who isn't very techie - but PM me or reply if you are interested.
  22. we consider our country to sit well to the left of America but could you imagine a half African, half British kid who grew up in a single parent family going on to become prime minister at the next election? When you consider that more than half the members of BOTH front benches had an Ox-bridge education. that all three parties have almost completely abandoned their election manifestos is an insult to democracy and the voters but we are but scum, simple subjects, not even worth their acknowledgement right?
  23. I'll get things going by talking about myself and my experiences. As far as I know mental health issues run in my family, the fact that I have a hereditary condition is an obvious factor. But none hereditary conditions such as bells palsy and alzheimers have also sprung up. I read that one in three people are affected by a metal health condition at some point in their lives, I would like a point in my life when I am NOT affected. I don't know, some forms of mental health are much worse than others, and are usually accompanied by other things probably because the stress of the one you cant get rid of leads to the other endemic ones such as anxiety and depression. Take the autistic spectrum for example, at one end you have people who have an invisible condition such as myself with mild aspergers, and some anxiety and depression thrown in for good measure which only me, my doctor, and the handful of people that I have told know about, and at the other end you have people who cannot talk or feed themselves. The wonderful thing about mine and many other mental health conditions is that it's not a disability, its a differential. There are many things which the majority of people find easy which I find difficult, and there are a lot of things which the majority of people find difficult which I find easy. That has given me a few advantages in life, but it has also thrown in a few stumbling blocks. Put like that you would think that it isn't that bad. It isn't until I am forced to do one of the things which I find difficult which every one else finds easy and then people think I am being a complete see you next Tuesday because I mess up. Then you have people like my friends little boy who is ten years old, cannot leave his bed, cannot talk, and needs to be fed through tubes. She has to look after him 24/7, and gets the same amount of DWP money as what my mum would've done if I was diagnosed as a child, (but because my mum had mental health problems herself and was scared of doctors, she never got any help outside of support from the family.) I don't consider myself to be disabled, but I do think I am at a disadvantage. I don't want an extra X amount of money from the DWP, but I would like help with the things in life that I find difficult, that everyone else takes for granted, and very often society or the government requires of me. I would much rather that all the DLA and extra ESA money in Britain were diverted into the NHS to provide quality care and support for everyone who needs it, rather than have the money in my hand and not know what to do with it. I have seen first hand - families who spend their disabled childrens benefits on booze, and mentally disabled adults who spend the extra money on what they want, rather than what they need, and allow their lives to spiral downwards, and for their general health and well-being to worsen, being taken advantage of by so called 'friends' and not caring that they are being used because they crave the company. Also because most of the milder ones are invisible most of the time they are quickly discounted, and scorned. (by milder I mean milder natured as well as having milder conditions.) The best comment I ever heard was 'It's all in your head'' and this was from a mental health worker. I don't think he realized what he said. Back to the topic of one benefits If you exaggerate and fake it, you'll get more from the dole, but is it really worth selling your soul? When there are are people in this country much worse off than you, who don't have it in them to grab that extra quid or two? The ones who really need it are crying in their bed, Whilst you go out on Saturday to paint the town red. Feel free to comment and add your own thoughts and experiences, questions whatever!
