  1. Currently on but either transport/storage or areal degraded or I'm mounted wrongly (not my choice of 'aim) but I get a few things but not much.
  2. Personaly I usualy have the right kind of attitude - drive upto the ignorant 'learned driver' and make him/her/it move for me. Especialy when someone comes down hill as you are just entering uphill - then sit there seemingly brainlessly while they have not got a clue! As stated in the Highway code http://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/12.htm "133: Single-track roads. These are only wide enough for one vehicle. They may have special passing places. If you see a vehicle coming towards you, or the driver behind wants to overtake, pull into a passing place on your left, or wait opposite a passing place on your right. Give way to vehicles coming uphill whenever you can. If necessary, reverse until you reach a passing place to let the other vehicle pass."
  3. So the two 'people' wearing police outfits on Chesterfield Road near Meadowhead (the road boardering Graves park as you come from Morrisons up the hill) anout 4-6 weeks ago were NOT police officers even though they were wearing Police uniforms with the shoulder numbers? They were just Chimpanzees in disguise? Then again some may not know the difference.
  4. If either are like Shallow Hal stylie pants I think I'll puke. j/k
  5. http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/in-your-area/crime-reduction/cctv >> Objectives of the system >> to help with traffic management and to deliver the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Initiative which checks vehicles suspected of involvement in criminal activity I'm not sure if this means it's already implimented though.
  6. Nope it's been around for a while - you know the Volvo cop cars? The ones on 'Police Stop!' where they record idiots et al? They have it but I don't think any other type do.
  7. Agreed - most Volvo cop cars have ANPR and can check out the car in seconds for tax, MOT and insurance (plus other things IIRC) and even if not most others radio through when they get a feeling, on a whim, bored. Not woth the 6 penalty points and fine and your insurance going from £1000 to a guess-timated £2500+
  8. I may be wrong about that but I do know that whatever they are used for it's probable to be able to link them into the ANPR system.
  9. I usualy ask as it's curtosy of nothing else - such as it's curteous to help a lady with a pram X people in front then resume your original space afterwards.
  10. Agreed ex Stannington but was driven into almost insanity by some 'neighbours' ('kids' and the lower tennant on a maisonette) Most were great but...
  11. As a few have said and I will say - the system is good as long as valid and accurate data is exchanged. I will assume the ANPR cameras on penistone road - both towards town 1) where Morisons pull-off is and also 2) about the 1'st or second street lamp after the speed camera (or after the junction - they are around there) These 'should' help instead of having a Mobile T5 waiting in the wings slowly getting bored and calliong not chasing...
  12. IIRC it takes a few seconds to scan the registration plate and OCR - relay and get ALL available data. It can flag anything from no (new) MOT or insurance (Motor Insurance Database - shared with the police) so in both cases a HO/RT1 aka Producer is issued unless it's able to be cleared about the time of any 'pull' If the registered owner is wanted there is a flag for this - stolen - VED/Road Tax? the same. In essence 'anything digital do not rule it out' If the RO has a warrant for his/her arrest you possibly would get stoped for that either T5 (Volvo ANPR (Automatic NumberPlate Reader)) or a regular either Mondeo/Peugeo radio check (which means they are bored or have something suspect on you/car (eg faulty brake light).
  13. I've just purchased a hand-held (well I say that but with the d*mn size of it it's probably pre WW2) and an in-car version which is brand new. I was wondering if any one here was still into CB's and could give tips on the lingo - I did a little research prior and got Q and 10 codes, but anything I will need? Hints, tips or notes-taped-to-bricks-at-back-of-head - anything could be welcome. Thanks in advance all. VVM
  14. I always advised people eating McRoadkill to eat the packaging for the better taste an nutritional values myself.
  15. Just likke London road or Chesterfield road lead TO those towns (if you follow in the right direction in any case)
  16. Could you warn in advance that precautions should be made - buckets or colostomy bags (or similar prefered choice) - BEFORE reading? Damn good post there - more fun than being a hard-core linux user holding a paddle at the all-comers Bill Gates Beating ceremony
  17. Personaly myself I drive a 740 TD Est which is possible I have been told to be converted to 7 seats should I need it. Why do I drive this car? It's a nice smooth ride and the Volvo's I've driven have never let me down yet. Also having felt the driving feel of the car (and much later watching on Top Gear a Volvo being driven through a brick-wall and escaping IIRC relativly unscathed) that I'm happy with my beast thank you ever so much. My car is also 16 years old, and while at the moment it may polute more than most, with a fair amount of cash which will be injected into the cause it should be running as good as possible before Springtime. As for my driving style as it's an old Diesel I need to take it steady untill the engine has warmed up (so apologies for anyone on Blackstock Road and finding me crawling upto speed - it's preservation of the engine. Also I doubt you want my engine to colapse at the wrong point now do you? ) but most of the time I'm relaxed and will wave/flash anyone in. About the only people I hate are chav/tw@t drivers who will cut you up and do 60 in a 30 for all of thirty seconds. Anyways not to say my 2.4TD won't move - 90 MPH on one occasion (accidentaly was following this car and my eyes flicked down and I silently swore) and I could have sworn the car asked if I wanted more - and I know he has *plenty* more to give. All the best and take care with yourself, family and car.
  18. There's a decent indian place (if anyone has a car and can collect the number for all those who would like to know - I've moved from that side of town and can't remember it - thought the phone had it on speed-dial ) at Walkley http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=433000.671216583&Y=389000.795801818&width=500&height=300&gride=433295.671216583&gridn=388921.795801818&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=GB&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=true&zm=0&scale=10000&down.x=257&down.y=324 IIRC it's near the Post office but as you come along from Netto's and the X road towards town it's on your left on a corner facing you. Hope this helps.
  19. First time I've been on SF for days and that one slips 'in between the cracks'. Ahem. Must eat less red meat...
  20. Not everyone I seem to be about the only other person also. Great to sail past and look at them cueing at the lights. The only down-side to the re-vamp is that they use the nasty plastic speed bumps which make you slow down to snail pace - annoying the person behind (which is why I avoid them as much as possible).
  21. To be honest though the amount of work they have to do - it's not their personal fault they are under-staffed it's the chair-warmers upstairs...
  22. I think it's law or such like that a shop can refuse large amounts of change - I'm not sure if it's a certain amount of coins or value but in all fairness unless the trams packed and he/she/it is worked off their feet I'd be happy myself to see if it 'looked' about right.
  23. Only extending to her toes? Some of the things she's done probably made the neighbours cringe as I was reading about them!
  24. Not at all - he's a decent chap though overworked at times. Hope he sorts out your troubles.
  25. Ask my step-father Trevor on 0796 044 4681 as he's a mechanic and works for himself. Hope this helps.
