  1. Thanks Jennie Wren I couldn't have said it better myself!
  2. Hi all, I work in a residential care home for people with dementia and one thing I have noticed is that the residents come to life when we have animals around. We currently have someone who comes with a rabbit but after being bitten by it myself I no longer require that particular rabbits services(dont mean to be awful) as I cant take the risk of it happening with a resident. I wondered if anyone on here owns a PAT animal dog/rabbit/etc? You would need to have an up to date CRB and also public liability insurance to visit us. If you own one or know someone who does please get in touch! Many thanks
  3. Hi all! We are holding a coffee morning and book sale this Friday 25th November and would like to invite you to join us. It will be held at Norwood Grange EMI residential home on Longley Lane ,Sheffield 5 from 10.30am till 12 noon. All proceeds will go towards our residents comfort fund which enables us to take part in activities. As all our residents have dementia it is very important that we keep their minds and brains active. Please come along and join us for coffee/tea and scones/buns if you can. Please help support our lovely residents and other dementia sufferers. Many thanks
  4. I have recently started a new job in a care home for residents with dementia. I am an activities worker and desperately in need of some equipment to help my lovely residents. As I dont have a budget I am desperate for help. I am currently taking in games and activities of my own children but really need some things we can call our own. If anyone has any games or jigsaws, paints, balls, scraps of material, anything really that they think we could benefit from then please could you contact me. Also if anyone knows of anywhere that might donate or where we could receive funding from then please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Michelle

  7. Hi sorry to ask this but are you an epilepsy liason nurse at the Hallamshire?
  8. I'm amazed how many people this is happening to! Recently I have changed my boys to packed lunch for this very reason. My children's school had that many complaints from parents about it that they decided they were now going to ask the kids at morning registration what choice they wanted. This was so the dinner people knew how much and of what foods to cook. However this hasn't worked. My 7 year old chose roast chicken as his option but when he went for lunch there was none left. He was given some curried option which he didn't like and before anyone asks yes he did try it. The same thing happened to my 4 year old. He chose roast chicken too but there wasn't any. So all day from 7.15 till 3.30 he had 1 slice of bread and a bit of salad. All I have to say is thank god he likes salad!!!!!!!
  9. I used to take my 2 there all the time but recently my youngest who is 4 got a really bad friction burn from that yellow slide! it was that bad I had to take him to see the nurse at GP's to have it dressed. I have been in contact with Monkey Bizness about this but tbh they're not really bothered!!! my little one is too scared to go back now.
  10. its probably because they have never or rarely have had experiences with people taking an interest in their son for a GOOD and GENUINE reason. Most people with disabilities face judgement and ignorance every day so for someone to be nice to him probably makes the parents think there maybe another motive for this, ie people taking the mick out of him etc. I think its great that you and your family treat this guy like anyone else and like to spend time with him. I think a nice quiet word with his parents should put their mind at rest maybe even invite them to sit with you next time so that they can see what nice genuine people you actually are!
  11. totally agree with you here. You are the people who know him best. Even when his mind was unhealthy he would have been more likely to trust and talk you than a swarm of armed police!!! I think the police acted totally irresponsibily and probably scared this poor man half to death. At least now he will get the help he needs its just a huge shame that it came to this.
  12. I smelt it last night too. to me though it smelt like dog poo! (a very big dog from the smell of it) I for one certainly wouldn't want to live up there with it.
  13. I understand that, I wouldnt like it if it was my friend. But like I said I was just saying what I heard it doesnt mean to say I believed it.
  14. I have a friend who lives across the road from this man and I know he was poorly and I also know why. If you could be bothered to read the post correctly it does say APPARENTLY!!!! I was told by 2 people who also live on that road that it was a stabbing, that doesnt mean to say I believe it I was mearely saying what I had heard! so why dont you get off your high horse!!!!! rant over
  15. apparently a guy has stabbed his wife on aldfield.
  16. cheers people! Have just done some research and found that its actually illegal to move nests between 1st feb and july 31st, not that I was intending to move it! But im sure your all right that if mummy bird didnt think it was suitable then she wouldnt have laid there! I think its either bluetits or sparrows as we've seen both going in. going to really keep an eye on it now though. We are so excited!!!
  17. Hi, Last Feb my 2 little boys built a birdbox which we attatched to a high fence post in the garden. This week we checked the box as we'd seen birds going in only to find an egg!!! I have been and checked again this morning and now theres 5 eggs!!! Just wondered if anyone knew what we should do with them? I dont want to disturb them but the box is about 10" deep with a small opening at the front and if the eggs hatch then surely the chicks wont be able to get out. The last thing I want is them to come to harm so any advice would be greatly appreciated! cheers
  18. I myself went to Southey School but it was many moons ago and it was great. I have friends who's children now go there and they too think its great!! My 2 sons go to Longley school and I cant fault it one litle bit. Both my children are doing brilliantly and are ahead of schools targets. You always get parents who slate the school whichever one you decide to choose. But I am confident that whether it be Southey or Longley you decide on your child will love it. Good Luck!
  19. I know its not designeror anything but both Asda and Matalan do suits with shirt and tie/bowtie for around £50. Nice quality too!
  20. I would warn everyone not to bother with this company!!! Last year I booked our honeymoon/holiday for myself my husband and 2 small children with this company and it was a complete joke. To be honest we only used them as my sis in law works for them and assured me everything would be fine.We booked the holiday 9 weeks in advance and was sent all the confirmation details through the post.( btw my sis in law didnt book it!) We had no problems until we reached Turkey. We had paid extra for transfers to the hotel so when we landed we headed to the coach park. After waiting 25 mins in the scorching heat we were told we wasnt on the list for transfers. I showed the guy all my paperwork and certificates to prove we had paid and he was adamant that we wasnt on the list. We spent the next hour on the phone(my mobile) to the transfer company and Alpharooms (when they eventually picked up the phone) trying to sort it out. Although we wasnt on the list the guy agreed to drive us to our hotel. After an hour we arrived at the hotel we had paid for and was dropped at the gates. We made our way to reception only to be told we wasnt on their list of new arrivals. After checking and double checking myself I was really starting to panic. It was now about 6.30 in the evening and we had been up since 5.30am the previous morning and the kids were tired and hungry. We were just left there for the next hour and a half while the manager tried to sort something out. We were told eventually they were fully booked up and there wasnt any room at all for us. The manager called his friend who is a travel agent in the hope he could help find us somewhere to stay. After another hour of phone calls to Alpharooms the guy found us another hotel to stay in. We were so grateful to this man as he put all our stuff in his car and drove us to this new hotel free of charge. The new hotel was great and in the end we really enjoyed our holiday. When we got back I received a phone bill with £96 charges for the calls I had made to Alpharooms whilst in Turkey. I wasnt happy to say the least. I made a complaint to the company but was told there was nothing they could do as they had already agreed to upgrade us to this new hotel we stayed in(apparently that was a more expensive hotel and they had to foot the bill.)!!! The bloomin cheek! We had paid for the holiday not them and it was their mistake afterall. It turns out the girl who had booked our holiday and sent out the confirmation had forgotten to send the confirmation to TURKEY!!!!! ALPHAROOMS spoilt the start of our holiday and ruined the start of our married life. I would avoid them at all costs!! Rant over!
  21. Nice name!!!! Glad hes settled in in well and Thanks to you too!!!xxxx:)
