  1. hello vera sorry,i don't recall the name pope, but my mum may-i'll ask tomorrow (monday)as for the stuarts,i can only vaguely remember amos,he wore a trilby and large overcoat, although whilst at nidd road my parents had a very close friend called betty stuart that lived on the road where dexel tyres is,i think its name is bradbury road or street, she now lives at hillsborough very near to the footy ground. which part of nidd rd did you live at?,i lived at no2, (ouse road end, i recall the mastermans (corner shop) kirtons (there was one called 'annette) (a net curtain:hihi: ),amanda ashton and i think tommy leaper lived on the road as well. memories are a little vague after 30 or so years:help: anyhow i will get back to you:thumbsup: john.

  6. the most stupid thing i ever did (amongst zillions of other things)was to go sliding on the ice on the boating lake in high hazels park,at an early age (can't remember exactly),everyone was doing it, but me, being the prize chump found the thin bit, went through and right under the ice:help: . i managed to get out and was freezing, then suddenly came over all warm and ended up with pneumonia-again:( john.
  7. snorroften ahm reit-burram rong agen :D john.
  8. last year i found a hedgehog wandering around our back garden during the daytime,it obviously was unwell so i took it down to the vets at the end of abbey lane, they were excellent, very caring and they left it at a hedgehog sanctuary somewhere down woodseats. i didn't realise that it was free at the time and made sure i had plenty of money on me as i was expecting a large bill;) i was very pleasantly surprised:clap:  regards, john.
  9. hi PT sorry,i don't know the ragman's family they moved into the house sometime after we'd moved to darnall. btw, i'm now 47 yrs old and the names i mentioned were all in my year at waltheof school, but came from around darnall. the house over the wall,(the corner one on carltonville rd)as i recall, the first names of the girls were, coral and vivien,i think their mom was called gwen, but i'll check with my mum at the weekend. also, there was a small grocery type shop across the road which i think was called reanies. ttfn, john.
  10. hello all i'm a newbie on this forum but have lurked a while;) i was actually born on't manor but that was only because my mum was at her mum's at the time. i lived on campbell road and attended carbrook school for a while then we moved to nidd road and went to hammerton junior school, from there on to waltheof:gag: i remember pop, matt, tunnard, mr caterer, miss batte, loads of the old teachers from there and loads of mates too (and some of the lasses:thumbsup: ) have read all 26 pages of this thread,it had me riveted:clap: lots of the street names mentioned sounded so familiar, but i just couldn't place them (must be gettin' senile ) but then it must be 40 years since i lived dahn't cliff. the house i lived in backed onto the old rec,i think plain talker mentioned the house earlier as being the ragmans house-i lived there before that when it was amos stuart's coal yard. amos was mentioned in the 'sheffield gangs' book, there were stables in the back yard and in the 63 gales, the whole lot blew down:hihi: btw PT, i saw that photo in the star(the one that got you all emotional:rolleyes: ) i wonder if anyone knows any of the old gang? they were- jimmy barras ray stones (stonner) dave whithouse ian pacey (yaow) paul birkwood ian smith (obviously 'smiffy') there were loads more, but due to my galloping senility the memory fades:( anyhow thanks to all for bringing the memories flooding back:thumbsup: best regards, john.
