  1. I just watched the first clip and genuinely felt choked up and I didn't even think I liked that film! I think it's sweet but I can say that because I'm an oversensitive woman
  2. I've just finished the book and I thought it was AMAZING! I'm a bit hesitant to watch the film though, in case it doesn't do the book justice, as I find is often the case when books are made into films.
  3. No, they are beans used to blind bake pastry for a few moments so that you can then add a filling - they look like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=baking+beans&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=5963409289&ref=pd_sl_1hk9sgfich_b
  4. Does anyone know of anywhere in Sheffield that sells baking beans and is likely to be open after 5pm as I will be looking to get some one evening this week but have to go after work. I'm not sure if it's the kind of thing that supermarkets stock so was hoping a culinary forummer might know! Thanks
  5. I just found out that the film version of Captain Corelli's Mandolin was filmed in Kefalonia, I didn't know that!
  6. As far as chain restaurants go, I really like Ego Mediterranean Restaurant on Surrey Street. They offer birthday deals but I'm not sure if you already have to be signed up to their mailing list to qualify, but you can sign up via their website - http://www.egorestaurants.co.uk/ Recently went to Kashmir Curry Centre (well, for a takeaway) on Spital Hill and loved it - best Indian in a long while! - but not sure what's it like to eat in there, the decor certainly looks like an acquired taste.
  7. A colleague is leaving our business to set up a freelance writing venture and I am in charge of the staff collection - any ideas on any keepsakes you would get for someone who was taking their first steps into self-employment? We're all struggling a little bit here!
  8. About 8 years ago, I briefly knew of a socialist who was pushing 40 at the time and was swindling incapacity benefits, shoplifting, preaching about his views but not really living up to them and generally being a <removed> to everyone around him. Needless to say, I didn't know him for very long. I would hope that all 40-year-old socialists are not like him.
  9. Does she really care what people think of her, though, or is she just playing up to the fact that she gets negative press in order to attract more media attention to her? She's made enough money as it is and is widely disliked so I don't think at this point she really cares if people like her or not.
  10. Nothing as such, it's just getting old now and a bit rickety so I've been wanting to get something else for a while. I've had it 5 years and it's time to move on
  11. Cheers for that - I drove one of those v briefly in Greece last year, although it was pretty battered but then it was a rental car for the day and it did the job! I only have a five-mile commute, each way, to work each day and I don’t use the car much in the evenings or at weekends, unless I am travelling to see friends in other cities on a weekend but that is only once in a while so motorway usage is minimal but of course I want a car that is up to that, should I need it to be.
  12. Wow - I'm amazed someone actually has something positive to say about the single!
  13. Hi, I'm looking to sell my Ford KA very soon and buy a used car - I've been meaning to do it for a while and really want to get on with it now but the reason I've been stalling (ho ho, pardon the pun) on buying another car is because I am a typical woman who doesn't know a great deal about cars at all. I'm not looking for anything fancy at all - I don't want to spend more than £3k (not sure if I'm limiting my options there but am optimistic I could get something reasonable for that price?!). I just want a car that doesn't have anything above a 1.3-litre engine and is just reliable, really! I'm not afraid to have a car that some people would brand dull or girly, I just want it to be in good working order and preferably not an E-reg Escort or similar heap of junk! Anyone here in the know that would have any tips on suitable cars and where is good to look for used cars in Sheffield? Thanks
  14. A clip of horrorbag's single - what do you think? http://www.heatworld.com/Celeb-News/2010/06/listen-to-katie-prices-new-single-and-tell-us-what-you-think/
  15. Shine on Crookes Road in Broomhill - small salon but reasonably-priced and good service
  16. Another fantastic Pride event at the weekend - it seemed to have grown in size slightly from last year? Now, roll on Sharrow Festival this weekend - my fave! Pray for sun!
  17. A friend of mine and her boyfriend had just organised a comeback gig for Frank in their hometown of Goole in August as they have become good friends with Chris Sievey over the past year - terribly sad news
  18. I'm surprised that a certain Forum lodger hasn't already bigged melatonin up to you - think he swears by it!
  19. Propaganda at 02 Academy if you fancy an indie night with a load of students. Went there for the first time last Friday and it wasn't really all that bad.
  20. Melatonin gets the thumbs up from me, too.
  21. I'll agree that the decor isn't great at all - I've been past many times before I went in and it looks like some kind of canteen or, as you say, possibly even a transport cafe.
  22. http://twitpic.com/1z9gtq This headline is hilarious but crazy - it gives away the whole story, although I suppose it does make you want to read on in order to fill in the gaps! My alternative headline suggestions would be: "Lesbian goes nutty over men" or... "Sumo lesbian goes nuts in gay bar"
  23. Maximum big-ups to the Kashmir Curry Centre on Spital Hill, where we tried a curry from last night. After trying a number of indian takeaways in the city over recent months, I've been left disappointed at the selection of meat covered in generic sauce that is offered up, no matter what curry is ordered! However, after trying the Kashmir last night, it made a pleasant change to taste two curries that were flavoursome and not separated purely by the amount of curry powder that was in each one. Even the meat was tender and without fat. Enough of the Kashmir love-in now, I just wanted to say that I thought it was very good and if you're fed up of generic Sheffield curry, you should try this place
  24. Are Burngreave and Pitsmoor two separate places? I find the line blurs between the two, it's confusing!
