  1. Hi, another trip down memory lane. I first posted on this thread a while ago. Marcia, I'm sure I knew you, did you live on Rokeby Road/Drive and go to St Pauls church? I also knew Julie Simpson, who also lived on the same road. You two were my closest friends when I was at Monteny Junior. I went to Colley Comp, and left in 1973 early, I should have left in 1974. I was Diane Elliott back then.
  2. It is the Travel lodge, Broxden junction. good job I carry my diary with me. lol
  3. I don't find either of them interesting! look at your pm
  4. I went to Colley Comp '69-74 I remember Mr Carmody tho' can't remember what subject he took us on.. I remember feeling sorry for him during lessons as he was given a hard time by some of the class epecially those sitting at the back, he was always red faced trying to control them and we never got round to learning anything as time ran out. I can even remember fights breaking out with him and some sent to Mr Birch but nothing was ever solved.
  5. Hi, are you ok? tried to PM you. It seems it is a while since your last post.
  6. I was slippered age 7 for being chased and bullied by a boy! not my fault... Also caned infront of the Geography class on both hands for forgetting my text book, 4 others joined me. I was caned by Mr Birch twice on each hand for wagging school 1 afternoon and same again for fighting on school grounds with a girl who had it in for me!
  7. DH are rubbish, and it seems not changed for the better since I applied and got a job with them 12 years ago, I had to pay for my own police check and 4 passport type photo's, the work was advertised for my local area and as I only had use of the car some days I thought it would be ok, my first job was miles away and I had to beg for the car to get there on time as it was over an hour on the bus, I arrived and was expected to change a catheta and clean the person in bed as well as lots of other care which I wasn't told about, I was only given the address and arrival time and 1 hour to do the job, just as I was getting my head round this another carer from DH came in and said it was his call, so we were double booked! He was so rude to me and also upset the client I left, I contacted DH and they said I would get my travel allowance and pay for 1/2 an hour. I waited a week for another job but it was so for away I had to turn it down, I never got my money and was out of pocket by £35 They run ads continually and this must be because they are no good, I do feel sorry for those who have to have this company care for them. :help:
  8. My son went back to his house to a party in the mid 90's after Sean was in town promoting his film "When Saturday Comes". He says he was a great guy and they all had a good time!
  9. I used to live at 696 Wordsworth Ave, just round the corner from tunwell Ave. 1964-1969
  10. I don't know the year you sang in the choir, but my brother also sang in it too, he also carried the cross to the alter in the service and on street processions eg whit sunday, we used to go to church twice on a sunday + I went to sunday school, we were always doing something for the church and the vicar who we called Father George was a regular visitor to our house, we left the area in 1964. My brother was called Michael Elliott.
  11. Sonny Boy Williamson's famous quote upon returning to the USA was "Those British boys want to play the blues SO badly, that's why they play it so badly..." Classic. He once also stopped a rehearsal with a backing band mid-song, and said to them. "Boy's, how many bars do you think there is in a 12-bar blues" "Er, 12? Isn't it?" "WRONG. There's as many bars as I say there is..." And he also once set fire to his hotel room after trying to cook a rabbit in his coffee machine. I don't think he liked Britain that much!
  12. Well it looks like a complete wreck to me. I'd like to see you try flying to the Isle of Man on it...
  13. Most of the supercars in Sheffield used to have the dreaded Prince Naseem behind the wheel. He once went into Currys on Meadowhall Retail Park, and nicely advised the incredulous staff to "...don't ever buy a Maserati, fellas, they are absolute rubbish..." ("Oh thanks, Nas, we'll stick with the Kias and Hyundais then...")
  14. I know it was after the war, but there is still the complete wreckage of a USAF reconnaissance plane lying in a secret spot on Bleaklow above the Snake Pass. It crashed in 1947. A guy from Eckington named Daniel Staniforth has a brilliant 23 minute video on Youtube about it.
  15. Yes Mr Burgin took me for maths, he drowned whilst on holiday, I remember it was a shock to everyone, can't remember the year, it may have been 72-73.
  16. Be nice to have a Dane back in Sheffield. Brings back memories of Euro 96.
  17. Hi, I lived on Mawfa Avenue from being born when the house was brand new, I remember having a good childhood there with lots of friends, I recall Miss Hill at school, she encouraged me to keep playing my recorder as I (had a gift) was able to play everything I heard, I went on to play Clarinet in "Comp school" orchestra, we moved away in 1964 when I was 6yrs old, I remember the Icecream box on a bike coming round on a Sunday, and just around the corner from our house was a little Bubble car parked up. All my family are gone now so can't ask them about any memories I have, my older bro' who would remember more died of cancer 3yrs ago, he would have been 60 this year.
  18. Does anyone remember Mr Mason- Room 1 colley Comp? I was in his classroom for 2 years just for register and he took science eg dissecting frogs and things UGG! his classroom were full of little animals and really stank!! I remember the Ram in the play ground was always chasing me around and butting, I was there 1969-1974 in class 1-0 to 5-0
  19. Does anyone remember a viaduct somewhere the Northern General which had graffiti on it saying "Irene I Love You" in the 80s. My hubby says it was wrote on it there for years but i don't remember it.
  20. Every time i've seen him I've had this thought - Why on earth was so much of the new A57 made without a pavement? So many times i've seen the A57 man ploughing through ankle deep grass and mud when he's been walking at the roadside. We left Sheffield 4 years ago but glad to hear he's still around.
  21. My father-in-law to this days still has a claim to fame that he once bought Blues Legend Freddie King a beer at Sheffield University in the 70s. He also met Champion Jack Dupree there at same time. Does anyone have any memories of blues legends like these playing in the city in the 60s or 70s?
  22. Hope the reunion went well John. We brought my brother Michael Elliott to the one in Oct 2008 a few days before he lost his battle with cancer. You probably know that he had a fantastic attendance from the depot at his funeral (complete with bus!).
  23. Does anybody reading this thread remember bands called "The Eclypse", "The Mystics" or "Memphis Crabshaw". Their members included Fred Denton (Bass), Brian Ingliss (Vocal) and John O'Melia (Guitar). They were based in Huddersfield but played a lot in South Yorkshire from 1965 to 1975, and were a RnB band mainly. Fred Denton came from Darton nr Barnsley and he's my father-in-law. Also had Peter Byford playing with them at one stage (He became Biff Byford of Saxon fame in 70s)
  24. I also remember Mark and Martin Redman went there too, Julie Simpson, Carol Wittham, there are lots more now coming to mind but can't remember there names.
