I also have a child in the IR, Showers. We don't have choice about where to send our children so we're hostages! I was sad to read about your son's lack of progress when the OFSTED report claims that IR children make progress. Does this mean they haven't really checked?

The form they send schools will shock you, maryjane, in its irrelevance to your child's condition and the fact that it's all yes/no answers to these irrelevant questions. Good luck!

I second what has been said about CAB & using the Cerebra guide. But first STOP.....have you asked for a reconsideration of the decision to refuse the DLA? It simply goes to another decision-maker. You can ask for it by phone and tell them if you need time to send extra evidence if you wish to. Dwp have to tell you what evidence they used in making the decision. When they refused my Aspie son, they'd only used a form they send to school about behaviour. DO NOT rely on DWP to ask for evidence from the professionals involved with your child(even though the form suggests they will) They might not even ask your gp! Ask for reconsideration. Gather all the evidence they have not used & send it recorded delivery. Remember it's not about educational needs, but you can ask school for comments on social skills, behaviour, independence, anxiety etc. You can write a statement yourself if you feel you didn't get your point across in the form. You can get a decision within weeks this way instead of waiting for appeal. We did :-)

Don't think you can return goods if they're not faulty. Bad signal in your area doesn't entitle you to return it unfortunately. If you go somewhere like richer sounds they will talk you through it. I bought mine there, and whilst it occasionally drops out with poor signal it's rare.

Bole Hill Nursery, Bole Hill Road at Walkley...my daughter v happy there from age 2 until school. V caring, good food, indoor soft play, garden with play area, playground with bikes etc. Can't speak for the baby routine, but their approach would suggest that they'll be good.

And they should have proactively offered everyone with a fault report open free call diversion to their mobile. Insist they do that. If there is a vulnerable person with a medical condition they have the resources to supply a mobile free of charge. In fact, a duty, if they're on the protected service register with them.

Make sure you insist on claiming compensation from the 8th! They should pay the compo automatically, but might only count from the 12th unless you contact them -wait til it's fixed. It should be a month's line rental for every day after the next working day from the fault report. This is a handy little BT trick where they will have raised a "common fault" for all the lines from the 12th....which incidentally is probably when they finally worked out that it was a UG (underground) fault affecting many lines. It is typical that your fault report was left as an EX exchange fault: the automated tester used for initial testing is rubbish. Their agency staff are not properly trained and have no technical nouse. What was lost was common sense and the ability of a team to recognise high levels of fault reports in a local area and reroute the fault reports to a diagnostic tester (real human being) and get the job allocated to the right engineers from the get go! One line might fault at the exchange, but it's not as common as other faults, plus the test results give you clues if you're not a monkey with a typewriter. The issues in the field can genuinely take time (like traffic), but you can bet that the delay from the start was due to crap testing procedures and lack of training.

I feel for you as my son is also Asperger's/ High functioning Autism and school holidays have been a nightmare for last two years. I know what you mean about depression: they're very susceptible. I'm PMing you on this.

As others said, King Edward VII or Forge Valley (ex Myers/Wisewood). Are you looking at a move with a child who is already secondary age or for a child who will be at a local primary first though? Because it isn't just about residential catchment in the latter case: primaries are feeder schools within families of schools within Sheffield. Walkley feeds to both and St Mary's feeds to King Ed's. Your best bet is to ring secondary admissions at the council: 273 5790.

No. The Ed Psych they're under depends which school they're at. If you're wondering in case your Ed Psych is aware she probably is, or would definitely find out for you.

My son's Ed Psych. I asked about it so she told me the type of provision. I know the numbers from the iniitial recruitment drive by RMET as this is my own area.

Brantwood is initially only going to have a dozen pupils, & will make provision only for statemented chlidren on the spectrum with very complex needs who would otherwise have to go out of area.

What a narrow-minded unscientific viewpoint. Whilst poor parenting undoubtedly can cause behavioural problems, you don't get a diagnosis of ASD or ADHD for a kid with bad behaviour. Pediatrician's aren't daft. There are stringent diagnostic criteria for these conditions. Do you imagine GPs refer to CAMHS at the drop of a hat? Spare a thought too for the kids who aren't "badly" behaved, in fact the opposite, but really struggling with everyday life because of their conditions or trauma that they've experienced through no fault of their own. CAMHS is their access point for psychological treatment. Parents can do a lot of behavioural work but we can't provide that ourselves.

I've just emailed Simone for a place. But especially I've read the summary of Dabrowski's theory and it is such a relief to find an explanation for high-functioning ASD other that one that pathologises the child. I've spent 3 years doing a degree focused on Psychology & Counselling for children which has given me some ammunition, but Dabrowski is a breakthrough for me. I'm going to research it further.

Anyone out there got a child on a Sheffield CAMHS waiting list? If you do, you'll know that all is not well with the service and the wait times are out of control. It's been brought up with Nick Clegg by a parent constituent back in Febat a public meeting. Due to my own experience: 4 months so far on non-urgent list, then knocked back for priority this week when my GP asked for urgent attention. CAMHS resources in Sheffield are not coping with demand. A child has to actually self-harm in a serious manner to even get an assessment within reasonable timescales. The evidence suggests it's not as bad elsewhere in the country. I'm bringing it up with my MP (Central constituency). He worked on another issue for me & got results. Anyone want to join me? Or if you live in another constituency, I'll pass on the research I'm doing to take your case to your own mp.

Anyone out there got a child on a Sheffield CAMHS waiting list? Anyone had the GP urge priority due to deterioration whilst waiting? Been knocked back for priority? Nick Clegg got a pasting in February in Sheffield over wait times (from a parent in his constituency). Google "CAMHS wait Sheffield" to read the press coverage. The figure quoted is a £1m cut to mental health budget in Sheffield. My son just got refused priority - you have to be seriously self-harming to get anywhere at the minute. CAMHS is restructuring; Flockton team is closing and its waiting list will be shared among the other 2 teams. So no predictions possible about how long a non-urgent wait will be due not having a picture of the waiting lists as of August next. I'm putting this in the hands of my MP -I'm keen to hear from anyone waiting for Sheffield CAMHS. And if you're in Sheffield Central constituency please consider joining me in speaking up for our kids. If you're in Hallam think about contacting Clegg's constituency office. Don't feel you have to share your child's condition to post on this thread. If they've been referred there's good reason. On the other hand, if you need to share/ let it out please do.

Don't be convinced that you have to bear any cost as you are not requesting a move to allow you to develop or build for commercial gain. If it's restricting your access & is on your property, you have every right to ask for a survey for it to be moved. If it's on local authority land outside you can contact them and advise that it is obstructing access. In both cases you may want to consider if it causes a hazard in the dark for example.

It's not likely to end when we're teaching kids aged 5 to decode 'non-words': to prove synthetic phonics teaching works. What happened to "if it's wrong don't show it to the kids on the board because they'll remember it"?

I'm with you on this one. It's not just central government who use these stats: local authorities really need them for planning for health & education for example. Researchers in academia use them too and they are often questioning, challenging and suggesting policy errors and change needed. Opposition parties need them for the same reason. Best not to take it as a personal interrogation or feel the need to justify your religious beliefs. They're just numbers & they help in ways you might not imagine.

Can I just specify that I'll advise how to proceed on the basis of what I know about the company and their attitude to moving poles? Nothing more. Just from someone who used to help some very frustrated customers.
