  3. Hi I am looking for 1 or 2 wedding photography assistants to cover some of my weddings this year, this is a great opportunity to gain vital experience and will be paid work. Ideally I am looking for someone who has their own equipment, preferably Canon (as then you can borrow some of my lenses etc), has experience with photographing a wedding (although this is only desired) is outgoing and flexible on some dates. Having transport would also be ideal, but not crucial. If interested send me a pm just explaining what equipment you have, experience and why you enjoy photography. Cheers Daryl
  4. I paid to exhibit at the wedding fayre at Ponds Forge on Sun 28th Feb 2016, this event has been cancelled at the last minute and all I received was an email that went to my spam box, it looks like the company has ceased trading as website and phone numbers down. Was anyone else an exhibitor, if so have you managed to get a refund, as at minute this is looking unlikely for myself.
  5. Hi Pip As the old saying goes, you never know unless you try. The photography industry is a saturated market, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for new busnesses, you just have to start out cheap build up a portfolio and then go from there. Like Andy says you need to think about where you can get paid work that fits within your current skills and photography kit. Keep it cheap target the independents, hire a studio, all low cost options.
  6. If any brides/grooms to be are attending the I Do Wedding Fayre at Ice Sheffield on Sunday 6th September, I have free tickets that I can either send you or leave on reception on the day. Brides go for free but you have to pay for guests, could save you the money and hassle. Pm me if interested. Cheers Daryl
  7. Like others have said, do it your way, sounds like it will be a small intimate wedding, hope you have a great day.
  8. With young kids I find Ponds Forge far too cold, this is the issue with it being a venue for competitive swimmers and families, there is no happy medium. Hillsborough is hit and miss, but usually it is ok if little ones keep active!
  9. Thanks Loraward that looks like a good course. Psynuk - She has already done some designs but with two small kids we do not have the room for a canvas or to store spray paints safely. The course sounds good as it includes a 3x3ft poster to take home and the location to design without meddling kids :-)
  10. Hi All Does anyone know if anyone runs any graffiti training courses as my wife has always wanted to have a go. Thanks Daryl

  12. Is this paid work or are you looking for someone to do this for free/nominal cost?
  13. I am showcasing at the I Do Wedding Wedding Fayre at Ice Sheffield on Sunday 7th September 2014 http://www.ido-weddingexhibitions.co.uk/sheffield/the-venue.php Brides entry is free, but I have lots of free passes for guests, PM me if you want me to send you any. Cheers Daryl
  14. Hi All I am looking for a photography assistant to assist me at an upcoming wedding on the 26th July 2014, this will be paid work. I require someone who has experience in photographing weddings and preferably who uses Canon equipment (although this is not essential depending on the equipment you own). Please DM me if interested, I will need you to send me a selection of your images and to meet up to discuss further. Thanks Daryl
  15. If you are selling products and the quality of the photo will sell the product, if you have lots of new products I would invest in a budget SLR and kit lens and hire a studio (they will set it up for you), you just come and shoot on a white or black background. Bad photos = no sales Good photos = good sales Everything these days is online, so it may pay to invest to get the photos you want.
  16. Hi I am showcasing at the I Do Wedding Exhibition Fayre at Ice Sheffield on Sunday 1st September 2013. I have some free tickets for guests, (as brides go free). If anyone would like any free tickets, please pm me. For more information about the wedding fayre, see the following link: http://www.ido-weddingexhibitions.co.uk/i-do-sheffield-wedding-show/the-venue.php Cheers Daryl
  17. I use Canon, started off with a 400d 5 years ago, then got a 50d (I miss my 17-55 f2.8 lens), then 5d mk II, now mkiii. I chose the Canon as it felt better in my hands and the functionality suited me better. I would not trade now, but really don't think there is a lot between canon and nikon at the pro end, both have slight strengths and weaknesses.

  19. My motto is to keep striving for perfection, honestly there are only 3 or 4 photos i am happy with in my whole portfolio from a technical point of view. But as we all know photography is subjective, I may pick a flaw in a photo but the clients may love it. Learning is key, keep your duds and learn from them.
  20. Hi All I am looking for a couple of photography assistants to help me out with wedding, portraits and commercial work this year. If you are interested please pm me and we will go from there. Ideally i am looking for an assistant who has a passion for photography, their own equipment, quite flexible with regard to availability and great interpersonal skills. All skills considered. Cheers Daryl
  21. I always think if you are going to offer some criticism why not make it constructive, just saying someone has a lot to learn is quite disrespectful, if you dont like it, tell the OP why and how they can improve (in your opinion).
  22. I've used the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 and thought it was good but not as good as the Canon 10-22 F2.8 for IQ. I've now got the Canon 16-35mm F2.8 for my Mk III which is a great lens. I agree with Cumo save your £££ and buy a better lens, then you wont be wanting to upgrade after a couple of months as the IQ isnt great. I am guessing you dont want a fish eye lens, so looking at camera price buster - would this lens be any good to you? http://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-sony-16-50mm-f2-8-dt-sam-lens.htm
  23. Personally i feel that lenses are more important than the body, but that may be a topic for another day. I would say go with a camera you can grow with, not one you end up changing after 6-9 months because you are limited by its functions. There isnt much difference between a lot of the early entry brands now, so pop along to a store like Jessops of Harrisons and get a feel for the different models, they are also usually very good for offering advice, so take advantage of it. If your looking to do more low light photography then you will need a low F number (preferably 2.8 or less). I think you can do a lot with say a zoom lens and a decent prime lens (1.8 or lower). Let us know which one you chose and how your getting on with it!
