  1. I trust you have submitted your complaint. And also if you had a seat reservation and not had it honoured included a compensation claim. http://www.firstgroup.com/tpexpress (Transpennine Express) http://www.centraltrains.co.uk (Central Trains)
  2. Does it sound like First group are running the Transpennine Express train service the same as they run the South Yorkshire bus service? Or is Mr Fox exaggerating? Did anyone here experience this? FOOTBALL fans from Sheffield travelling to Manchester to watch England play Wales queued for hours only to be crammed into trains "like sardines", says a leading figure in a rail watchdog group. Peter Fox, chairman of the Hope Valley Line Users Group, accused train operators of "not caring less" about passengers and said they did nothing to help alleviate overcrowding on Saturday. He said the scene at Sheffield Station was "a total shambles" with people having to wait between three and four hours to board trains and scramble to find somewhere to stand. "The operators were totally pathetic, basically they could not care less about passengers. People were crammed in like sardines and there were more people standing than sitting." Two services link Sheffield and Manchester. First Trans Pennine Express operate an hourly service from Cleethorpes to Manchester Airport and Central Trains have an hourly service from Norwich to Liverpool. Mr Fox said both trains had just two carriages - but they should have had six to help get people to and from the match. He said the service is regularly overcrowded with commuters travelling to Manchester and back. Mr Fox said he had complained to the Strategic Rail Authority about daily overcrowding, but has "got nowhere". The matter is now with Sheffield Hallam MP Richard Allan. Both Central Trains and First Trans Pennine were unavailable for comment today. (story from SheffieldToday.net)
  3. The price of the day tickets have actually been reduced. It's the weekly tickets that have gone up by £1 a week. First bus weekly tickets do seem expensive compared with the competition: Yorkshire Terrier weekly Megacard is £7.50 (although of course Terrier generally stops running at 6pm) Stagecoach South Yorkshire Megarider Tram only £8.00 Tram + bus £8.50 Stagecoach operate the following bus routes in Sheffield 43/44 Sheffield-Woodseats-Dronfield-Chesterfield 50 Sheffield-Mosborough-Chesterfield 53 Sheffield-Mosborugh-Mansfield 252 Sheffield-Gleadless-Marsh Lane-Eckington-Waterthorpe 253 Sheffield-Woodseats-Coal Aston-Waterthorpe 255 Sheffield-Woodseats-Coal Aston-Waterthorpe 265 Sheffield-Chapeltown-Barnsley 747 Sheffield-Woodseats-Chesterfield-Nottingham (express) 767 Sheffield-Meadowhall-Anston-Worksop M17 Dore-Totley Brook-Bradway-Low Edges-Greenhill-Jordanthorpe M49 Firth Park-Parson Cross M50 Firth Park-Southey Green They are growing as an alternative in certain parts of town...
  4. Sure you hadn't wandered into a childrens birthday party by mistake? Was there jelly and ice cream for pud?
  5. We now have a coffee shop in Bradway too called S17, and it aint bad!
  6. Travelmaster is a Transport Executive product, so they price that. They only changed the prices a few months back when they launched the zonal versions, so I doubt they will go up until next year now.
  7. Yorkshire journey planner is quoting a service number 1 from City to Meersbrook 48 minutes past each hour until 22:48. It then quotes a last journey at night of getting the Stagecoach number 255 bus at 23:08 to Heeley, then connecting into the number 8 bus from Heeley to Meersbrook at 23:25 Are these suitable evening options?
  8. The 2 condiments tend to be used with slightly different dishes. If you live in Sheffield then it's mandatory to put Hendersons Relish on Meat and Potato pie! Mmm lovely. However if I want to spice up a mug of hot oxo drink I find Worcester Sauce works better...
  9. Well good and bad news - First daily tickets are being reduced in price slightly (compared to before the summer promotion) however weekly passes are going up. The following has now appeared on First's website. First, South Yorkshire’s leading bus operator announced the end of its ‘FirstDay AllDay’ £2 ticket this weekend after a successful six weeks, which has seen over half a million customers in South Yorkshire making the most of unlimited travel across the region. As the ‘FirstDay AllDay’ offer ends customers will see price changes for both FirstDay and FirstWeek tickets take place on Saturday 9th October. A FirstDay ticket will now cost just £2.20 or £2.70 before 9am, a saving of over 10% on prices before the ‘FirstDay AllDay’ £2 promotion. The new price for the Sheffield FirstWeek ticket is £12, local Rotherham or Doncaster FirstWeek tickets become £11 and the South Yorkshire FirstWeek ticket is now £14, all of which provide unlimited travel for 7 days at a maximum of £2 per day. Brandon Jones, Commercial Director of First in South Yorkshire commented: “Our range of saver tickets continues to offer customers excellent value for money.” Mr Jones continued: “When looking at price changes this Autumn we’ve had to consider rising fuel costs and although we have had to adjust weekly ticket prices I’m pleased that we have been able to reduce normal day prices and hold monthly prices.” The changes in price to FirstWeek tickets make the FirstMonth ticket an even more attractive proposition for the regular traveller. FirstMonth ticket prices remain the same at just £39 for Sheffield, £37 for Rotherham or Doncaster and £45 for the South Yorkshire version and entitles the holder to a full calendar month of unlimited travel on First bus services within their chosen area. FirstMonth tickets can be bought at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive Travel Information Centres or customers can save an additional £2 when they buy a FirstMonth ticket online at http://www.firstgroup.com
  10. I assume it goes back to the days when Bradway was basically a few farmhouses on the track out to Derbyshire, and that corner was some sort of market place where tinkers traded. Erm... I'll see if I can find out. Bradway Bugle website might be a place to start looking (http://www.villagepublications.co.uk).
  11. Regent Street I think. It's one of those side streets off West Street/Glossop Road that go towards the former church. Looks like a bit of a posers bar.
  12. Anyone know if this is open yet? And if it is, is it any good?
  13. I'll go to the Old Monk if the big screen has finally been repaired otherwise its the Fountain bar.
  14. SYPTE has cashed in on the land value by selling the bottom bit to developers for an office development known by the grand title of e-campus.
  15. I suppose at least they are the genuine article, rather than all the proffessional beggars that spoil our city centre.
  16. Most are now referred to as social clubs, for example Woodseats, Farm Road and St Phillips.
  17. No, I believe it's a Standard class lounge like the one on platform 5.
  18. They still have English staff in them though, so I don't buy that one. And in fact I would bet that a local indie coffee shop would probably be offer a friendlier and more personal service. I think the Yank chains are just more ruthless in their business practices.
  19. The work on the platforms is due to be done by October 2005 - I think it's the bits at the front of the station that are taking longer. It is all being done in phases to minimise disruption.
  20. I've found in there the bouncers are indeed over keen on getting punters swept out as soon as the bar closes, but I've found that as long as you are sound with the bouncers when they come round, have a bit of a laugh with them and indicate you defintly intend to be out before the 20 minute legal leaway is up then they are normally return the favour of being civil...
  21. Zoobies is new, Sheffielders clearly didn't resist that change!
  22. Slow service at Zoobies then? (ducks to avoid incoming missiles....!)
  23. Well, let's continue to remember the unofficial city slogan Sheffield - it'll be nice when it's finished!
  24. I can assure you that is not at all true. The Transpennine Express timetable is indeed being recast in December and the stopping pattern and departure time being standardised each hour, but the Airport is still on he network. The Sheffield route (Cleethorpes to Manchester Airport) is pretty much unchanged between Sheffield and Manchester Airport. As far as I know the only route that is being cut back to Piccadilly is the Hull route.
  25. Maybe you should employ Mr Funke.... ;-) I have to say I think Junkies probably isn't a regular problem at the Classic Rock Bar!
