This is what First have posted on their website:

Following lengthy negotiations between representatives of First South Yorkshire and the joint negotiating committee of the T&GWU on Monday 9th August 2004, a fully negotiated settlement has been agreed by both parties.

As a consequence of the progress announced today the T&GWU have recommended that industrial action be suspended from midnight tonight. Drivers will be balloted on the revised offer on Thursday 12th August 2004.

First bus services will therefore resume on Tuesday morning 10th August but customers are asked to be patient as both operation and engineering departments resume service. Drivers are being requested to return for normal duties or contact the company for details.

A spokesperson for the T&GWU commented “We are extremely pleased to reach agreement today and are strongly recommending that our members accept this offer.”

Gary Nolan, managing director of First’s bus operations in South Yorkshire added “I’m delighted we have agreed an offer today and am confident that this offer will be accepted and bring this dispute to an end.”

Please note:

Details of the offer have not been publicised at this time pending communication to staff

Customers are advised to check service information particularly in light of the changes that were introduced at the end of July. Customers can either contact Traveline 01709 515151 or visit http://www.firstgroup.com for further details.

i will be glad that the bus strike is over so we can find out if any buses are going to run in parson cross and if they are going to run when and where people need them,because if i fully understand the new timetables in some areas we are still going to rely on powells buses and they only run when the drivers are not needed for the school run,doncaster or rotherham.

so good luck to the drivers its not going to be plain sailing yet

I heard that the bosses at first came over with a pay deal and the drivers shut the door in their faces and drove off.

Question: when an old person gets on the bus with loads of shopping why doesn't the driver wait until the old dear has sat down and relieved herself of her shopping before hurtling down the road ten feet before slamming his anchors on at the next set of traffic lights only feet away? Do they enjoy watching the old become weightless and fly around inside the bus? Maybe they are all failed physicists who are embittered by their lot, who still secretly enjoy multi dynamic speed experimentation.

A drivers equation

d = rt + P = Serious baggage loss

where d = distance r = the rate of travel, or speed

t = time

p = Pensioner

It makes yer think!

I gather its a complete victory for the strikers - magnificent news if so!

This is a quote from http://www.first-strike.co.uk regarding pay offer.

Today after several hours of negotiations beginning at 0900hrs and concluding about 1500hrs, we achieved a negotiated settlement to the First South Yorkshire Bus Strike. The negotiating committee are unanimously recommending acceptance of the deal, and have suspended the strike at midnight tonight. Drivers will return to work tomorrow and ballot on the offer on Thursday.

The offer is as follows:

30p on all rates backdated to April 1st 2004

30p on all rates April 1st 2005

No strings - and I mean no strings!

Improved scheduling parameters to be phased in over the lifetime of the deal as follows:

8hrs 30 mins maximum duty

4hrs 30 mins maximum duty spell*

* there are some locally agreed exceptions where we accept on certain routes this can be breached

You will see, if you followed the details of our battle over the last 3 weeks, that the Company had to remove the attack on our sick pay in order to get our recommendation. We steadfastly refused to give up any conditions to finance this deal, and today for the first time the Company accepted this. We in return have conceded a 2-year deal, but only on condition that next year's pay increase is no less than this year's. Finally we achieved the much-needed improvements to our scheduled duty lengths, which will be phased in as schedules are changed over the lifetime of the deal. Crucially we have won an end to the crippling long spells of work in excess of 5hrs without a break - indeed our existing agreement allows up to 5 hours and 30 minutes, so this is a major breakthrough on health and safety grounds.

Why have the Company conceded so much and so suddenly? Well of course it is because much to their amazement our strike held solid for three whole weeks with no one threatening to cross the picket lines - and no prospect of the strike breaking as we poised to begin our 4th week on strike. It was also because they could no longer bear to lose so much money as the strike continued (our estimate is £5 million losses so far).

Hope this helps and now can we get back to how we were before and love one another!!!

:thumbsup:
