Sheffield City Centre's Bus Gate? (Arundel Gate)

The best thing to do with bus gates would be to put a standard No Entry sign in place, people take notice of these. Putting an array of multi word signs up is not ideal when you're trying to navigate traffic and are unfamiliar with the area.

Local authorities have to use the signing prescribed by the government if they want the restriction to be enforceable.

Nowadays things have to be signed positively, ie the signs say what can use the bus gate / lane ( motorcycles, taxis, authorised vehicles etc) No entry signs would not be appropriate.

I've had several drivers shouting at me for using the bus lanes on Graville Rd & Queens Rd whilst outside the times of operation.

I’ve had similar in several places.

Police for enforcement who play deaf, blind and mute...

South Yorkshire Police don't play deaf blind and mute, they do it very professionally ! And completely and consistently. Especially in regard to deliveroo bikers and zombies who have made me refuse to come to Sheffield in the evenings.

So basically you didn’t observe the signs that told you a bus gate was ahead and it’s the council’s fault?

What would you have them do? Provide several turning facilities in case someone blocks one?

The only sign-age I noticed is just before the hotel.   Even GSM does not show any sign-age until you approach Novotel.  The road makes it clear only the left hand lane is a bus-gate until you approach Novotel.

The answer is simple. Lets make these £5 Million pound rackateers illegal.

A motorist who doesn't/can't/won't read road signs is very concerning.

There's at least one big red sign as you come off the roundabout telling you about the bus gate, pretty sure there's the same sign abit further down aswell.

As someone who drives through Sheffield on a regular basis, if you miss the MULTIPLE LARGE signs placed from Furnival Gate roundabout about all the way upto the bus gate then it's time to hand in your licence.

The image you've linked is from November 2022. The bus gate was introduced in March 2023

The answer is very simple.

You should be more observant. The find is a reminder to you to do that.

If you thought the signing was deficient, you should have appealed.

The super, soaraway Star are sensationalist as usual. The amount which will be received is far less than that. Most people don’t pay the full amount and many fines are cancelled or appealed.

Exactly how do you think you are going to “make them illegal”?

Everything they are doing is lawful.
