Trying to contact White Lion to see what time music starts/ends this evening.  0114) 255 1500 (number not recognised)  and FB 'not monitored!

White Lion closed a while ago - apparently it will be re-opening under the current landlords of the Mount Pleasant.  No dates I'm afraid!

It seems like it's been back open for at least a couple of weeks now.

I went past yesterday and it was open.

Have lived in the area for over 30 years, always found White Lion unwelcoming so went elsewhere until Sheaf View opened, then that was my main pub. But when Mandy and Jon took on the White Lion about 8-10 years ago it became a lovely place, full of decent, quirky, friendly, oddball, interesting and intelligent punters and staff.

 

Jon's playlist was great and Duncan's quiz was mad and endearing, local artists exhibited on the walls.

 

Ultimatly running costs became too high and it changed hands a few months ago, immediately everything was lost, crap Radio 2 type playlist, sweary, loud and racist punters, bar staff who notice you come to the bar and go round the corner to polish a glass rather than serve you. Hence it's changing hands again it seems.

 

So I'm back at the Sheaf for the foreseeable.
