Gleadly
Does anyone know what happened to the lower part of Arbourthorne Road as it now only starts from the 300's? It currently runs from Park Grange Road up to Hurlfield Road. The lower part is missing for some reason or another.
crookesey
I’ve not been there for years, used to live on Park Grange Croft 1972 ish, do you mean that it’s a large empty site?
Kidorry
Was that park of Arbourthorne in Norfolk Park? Maybe the Duke would not let them build on it.
Organgrinder
If there was a part which is no longer there, they probably demolished it when they were building the new houses on Norfolk Park. Don't know what changes they made when building the Supertram too
Leipzig
Hi Gleadly The lower part of Arbourthorne Road only ran from City Road to the edge of the upper end of the Norfolk Park. These were the lower house numbers, 1-39 and 4-16a then the Arbourthorne Cottages and Arbourthorne Lodge, running up to Fellbrigg Road. From here the estate houses continued towards Hurfield Road with houses; 353-641, and 392-640. Sometime between 1951 and 1954 the lower part of Arbourthorne Road was renamed St Aidan's Road (the 1954 Directory says '(Formerley part of Arbourthorne road.) (No throughfare.)' St Aiden's Road covered the house numbers 1-39 and 4-22; followed on by the Arbourthorne Cottages and Arbourthorne Lodge. Kind Regards Leipzig
