GabrielC   58 #1 Posted September 21, 2021 Shasta Lake 25% full , no electricity production not enough water to turn the turbines  Lake Orrville 22% full  Hoover Dam/ Lake Mead 45% full, no electricity production at present.  Lake Powell 23% full.  Other dams are at record lows or even empty.  Over the last ten years has seen a record breaking drought in the state's of California, Utah and Arizona with temperatures reaching into the 40s. Forests fires are becoming harder to put out due to the lack of water in the dams. Farmers have been tearing up there crops because of lack of rain fall or simply going out of businesses they are not the only ones suffering house boat resorts that are on Shasta Lake will soon be closing as the water level drops to nothing.  Electricity production at Shasta and Hoover ceased in July this year due to low water levels their is talk of rationing electric supplies and water in each effected state.  With global temperatures raising how long will it be before we see the same sort of prolonged drought across the world?
 Share this content via...

geared   321 #4 Posted September 22, 2021 They're not doing a great deal to help themselves, Arizona is fast becoming a hot destination for chip fabrication. Intel are spending £20bn in the state, TMSC are spending $12bn with scores of other companies very interested.  These chip factories need huge amounts of water to run, 15 million litres a day per factory. Not an easy task in the middle of the desert.
 Share this content via...

They are doing something, but not the right thing. If people were not rewarded for having children, perhaps some of those protester would never have been born? Delbow   708 #12 Posted September 22, 2021 I think life as people have come to expect it in the western US is coming to an end. A few pioneers coming to live in the desert and areas with fragile water resources is fine, but huge cities and the world's 7th largest economy planted there is unrealistic. It's becoming less liveable every year, there are places in California now where they don't flush the toilet more than a few times a week, wildfires, drought. The water table is dropping further and further and yet farmers keep drilling down for water to feed almond trees. Interestingly, Dune author Frank Herbert studied in California and was very interested in ecology and water management - looks like California is on its way to becoming Arrakis now. But Californians and Arizonans have used so much of the world's resources on frivolities and luxuries - **** 'em.
 Share this content via...
