L00b   441 #3 Posted September 7, 2017 If you tried and had no luck on eBay, then you're likely fresh out of luck, because that's long long been the best outlet for these, by far. Were you priced competitively?  Beyond that, I'd say you best bet is specialist forums (AVForums maybe).  I can't remember the last time I saw any in any bricks and mortar shop, even retro/vintage -specialising ones. LDs are extremely specialised/niche items in this day and age.
 Share this content via...
alchresearch   215 #4 Posted September 7, 2017 If you've got a big collection and a player you might be able to get rid as a job lot on one of the retro pages on Facebook.
 Share this content via...
L00b   441 #5 Posted September 7, 2017 Players seem to fetch big money these days.  I was looking at them on eBay (of all places) a couple weeks ago, thinking I may be able to get a cheapo one to set in the games room/den, and then pilfer some LDs from my parents' collection that they've never watched and are unlikely to ever watch (anime and concert LDs, mostly)...but then, looking at the prices,
 Share this content via...
geared   321 #6 Posted September 7, 2017 Not surprising really, they never really took off so many people who bought players would have binned them off leaving very few remaining.  There were probably huge stocks of the discs kicking around though so plenty of media but relatively few players. L00b   441 #7 Posted September 7, 2017 (edited) Not surprising really, they never really took off so many people who bought players would have binned them off leaving very few remaining. There were probably huge stocks of the discs kicking around though so plenty of media but relatively few players. Well, they've certainly long been cheaper (at least on eBay), before prices started to ramp up more recently (they do go back 20 to 30 years and yes, you're on point as they've always been a bit of a rarity). It's not that long ago that most, in good condition and mul-tiregion (PAL/NTSC) could be had well south of £100, with the dual-side players always commandeering a premium.  Kinda like any other item that becomes worthless once past their prime, until fashion re-discovered, with the attrition rate in the meantime increasing the rarity and driving the price differential.  When I sometimes see the going rate for many retro consoles (the more rare/unusual ones, not your average NES, SNES, Megadrive, etc.) these days, I'm always minded to kick myself for getting rid of my collection about 13 years ago, which included stuff like boxed mint VirtualBoy, Vectrex, white PC Engine, PC Engine GT, etc...each worth beer money up to around the early to mid-00s, but now worth thousands  On-topic, in/around Sheffield, still can't think of a shop. OP, perhaps try listing on Shpock, with a willingness to ship (you will likely get enquiries from afar -but not overseas- asking about P&P/shipping). I find it much easier to use than eBay (plus it's free). Edited September 7, 2017 by L00b
 Share this content via...
