Will you pay another 23p for farmers milk?

Recommended Posts

Yea I'd buy it.

Dairy farmers across Europe are going to the wall right now, Russia has banned all dairy imports from the EU so there's suddenly a huge glut of supply with no-where for it to go.

Buy the milk and support British farmers, maybe ones on the continent go to the wall and we retain a thriving dairy sector.

Farmers margins are not being squeezed by the supermarkets. They are falling because they are producing too much milk.

It's simple excess supply. The farmers want a free market to sell their goods on except when it's inconvenient to them? Sorry, that's really not how it works at all....

No. The vast excess of milk on the market is the problem.

Of course I'm sure you think it's the nasty capitialist supermarkets crushing the poor brother worker farmers, but's that's your socialist blinkers getting in the way of reality.

Socialist blinkers? its better than being short sighted.

the supermarkets have been squeezing farmers margins because they are the farmers largest client. its an unequal power balance. not a new thing.

much like new zealand lamb squeezing out british lamb. british farmers can supply all supermarket lamb not a problem.

Might surprise you, but I would not pay the 23p excess in the supermarket. But I do buy local wherever possible and direct.

The dairies and producers want to band together, cut out the supermarkets and start selling direct to the public.

absolutely. cut the supermarkets right out.
