Landlord only accepts cash?

It is irrelevant to the tenant the reasoning why behind paying in cash. Its a simple situation from the tenant point of view. If your happy to pay in cash take the property if your not don't.

As a landlord I prefer monthly via bank. One of my properties I collect cash weekly, this is as my tenant gets paid cash weekly.

the landlord only accepts cash as the rent. What's the hidden purpose?

Anything that goes through the bank leaves a paper trial for the greedy Taxman to follow ,so cash in hand allows landlords to keep their earnings away from the nosy Taxman. The is nothing wrong with requesting cash only.

Well, I wouldn't say that this gives instantly a bad name. But accepting cash only really is a downgrade for a landlord. As you said - it's 2014.

No its not. Cash is a more " beneficial " way of receiving the rent thats all for a lot of us landlords.

Back in the real world the conversion will go something like this:

Tenant - Can I have your bank details please, so I can arrange the rent direct debit.

Landlord - Can you pay me cash please.

Tenant - Goodbye.

Why does it make any difference to a tenant how they pay the rent. ? paying cash is no different to paying via DD , standing order etc. Many of us still prefer to work with pound notes . No one would refuse to take a property they like just because the landlord requests the rent paid in pound notes , in their hand .

No, it isn't. In the UK you are only obliged to provide a rent book if you collect rent weekly. It is NOT necessary for monthly rent.

I guess this must be completely wrong then.

Your basic rights as a tenant

A rent book (free of charge)

This should include the name and address of the landlord, the rent (and rates if applicable) payable and when it is due and details of any other payments you should make. The landlord must provide this within 28 days of the start date of your tenancy.

The government guarantees the first 85k of your deposit with any UK regulated bank.

Place your faith in a government guarantee then... just don't ask me to. I do admire your optimism though.

The rest of your post sounds like conspiracy theory.

In your opinion perhaps.

I see it as a very likely probability.

It remains to be seen whether it will happen before our, and all the other, fiat currency inevitable systems collapse. Naivety and ignorance won't stop that happening.

Ever heard of the Reichsmark.

Look at the future of the US dollar.

EVEN IF it is a currently only a conspiracy theory then as I have said before that does not mean its wrong.

Here's some food for thought.

But of course it could never happen here ......

You know very well I live in my Grandma's basement! I'm down here right now actually playing call of duty. I'm working the night shift at the box factory later so all in all I'd say I've pretty much got it going on wouldn't you!

House prices are rising significantly, BTL interest rates are now fixed for the next "5" years at a very low rate, voids are practically non existent, demand has never been higher, achievable rent has never been higher, good tenants with GOOD attitudes have never been easier to find. The futures bright, the future is generation rent. And what are you doing? Sitting on the fence, watching the world go by, getting paid by the hour. I despair, I really do!

Did you miss the bit where I'm a landlord as well as having a well paid career?

You're quite right, they've got it wrong.

If the rent is paid weekly, private landlords have to provide a rent book.

Perhaps the one you've been reading isn't referring to private landlords?

I will thanks.

If the state fails then cash isn't going to be important anyway.

The key thing about conspiracy theories (or other crackpottery) is that it's generally nonsense and only loosely linked to reality at best.

In the even of the currency collapsing, whether you have cash in notes, coins or in the bank is irrelevant. Unless you're advocating that people keep gold, physical gold of course, not ETF investments, in a safe at home, and that they can use it in the chaos of the state collapsing.

Cyclone is right; Tommo68 is wrong.

See sections 4-7 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1985/70/crossheading/provision-of-rent-books
