mart
why should you be surprised about that. In Scotland they are voter poison. Do you not even know that? He is surprised because they are the ruling party. The party that is in government.
Alan Ladd
You seriously "cannot" build an economy on an alcoholic drink. ---------- Post added 24-08-2014 at 19:36 ---------- The NHS has been devolved to Scotland. They can run it as they see fit. Not entirely but do not underestimate the importance of mind altering substances to an economy. Columbia, Peru, Mexico indeed most of central and south America takes a significant amount of money from the growth and distribution of cocaine. blake
He is surprised because they are the ruling party. no they are not 'the ruling party'. The British Conservative and Unionist Party have not won a British General election for 22 years. the last time they got a majority of Scottish votes, was in 1959. BEDROCK
Where the hell was the Prime Minister in these debates, in fact, the Conservatives were nowhere !!!
blake
he is not there because Cameron is a smart enough politician to know that his prescence on the podium of a big debate will not help, the NO campaign. He has realised that if the Scots are going to vote NO, then he needs to keep a low profile. Is it really that hard to get your head round that? Cameron looks and sounds an English nationalist to Scots, like Thatcher did, and will not gain NO any votes. At least Malcolm Rifkind looks less of an English nationalist, because he has a Scottish accent and used to represent a Scottish consituency, at least before the voters booted him out, together with every other Scottish conservative MP, in 1997. Alan Ladd
Where the hell was the Prime Minister in these debates, in fact, the Conservatives were nowhere !!! If the Tories have any sense they will stay out of it. Let the jocks go. They can then enjoy their Celtic wilderness at their leisure. Give it 25 years, once the oil runs out they will back in kilts herding sheep. The socialists will be in a minority in England, the Tories will reign supreme and we can get back to some sensible governance where it matters. England. Flug
Russia isn't even in the top 10 for whiskey exports. The argument that losing whiskey exports to Russia would bankrupt Scotland at a stroke is laughable; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-26974320 I do not believe that is what I said and I made a clear distinction between the emerging markets and the ex Soviet Block for that very reason. If there were international sanctions for some future unseen or unforseen reason then they would be in trouble. It is an irrefutable fact.
Guest
If I was in the audience during that debate I would have asked Alex Salmond how he can look the Scottish people in the eye and confidently insist to them that a confident, strident and prosperous independent Scotland can be so while using another country's currency which it doesn't control?
