Moorgate Road, Rotherham Police Taped Off

Recommended Posts

2 side road's leading off the main road and police either side guarding the junctions not letting anyone in or out. Saw this at dinner time today and just come back down the road and still being guarded. Asked at the local Tesco and lady says a raping happened last night involving a young girl. Another friend who lives in the area said there was a knife involved and someone intervened. Has anyone heard anything.

I know its out of Sheffield, but there are a lot of people from Rotherham that come on the forum and thought it best to warn them there is a nutter around the Moorgate area of Rotherham.

One attack on the street and then broke into a house. Do not go around there until this crazy person is caught and be vigilant in the home locking all doors and windows.

South Yorkshire Police are tonight asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who violently attacked and sexually assaulted a young woman in Moorgate, Rotherham on Friday evening.

In releasing his description, they have asked the public to ring 01709 443414 if they believe they know who he is.

At some point between 11pm and 11.30pm on Friday evening (27 September) a 27-year-old woman was walking along Green Lane where she was grabbed by a man and subjected to a brutal attack and sexually assaulted, and then dragged onto Moorgate Road where passing members of the public intervened. The man then fled the scene on foot.

Since that time, police have been working with the victim to piece together a description of the suspect.

He is described as white, aged in his mid to late 20s, around 6ft 3”, stocky and clean shaven. He has receding short dark/dirty blond hair and the victim said he had blue eyes. He was also said to be carrying a plastic carrier bag.

At the time of the attack he is thought to have been wearing a light-coloured, short-sleeved top, light coloured trousers and light coloured shoes.

Detective Supt Lisa Ray, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was an horrendous and terrifying attack on this young woman and throughout the weekend we have been gradually developing a picture of what he looked like.

“I need to hear from anyone who knows a person fitting this description who they believe was in the area at this time, or has acted strangely since the time of the offence. He needs to be arrested quickly.

“Less than two hours after the attack, at around 1am on Saturday, 28 September, a man broke into a house only a few streets away from the scene of the first incident and attacked two female occupants. The younger of the two females was seriously sexually assaulted in the house.

More than 50 officers are now working on the investigation into the two separate attacks. They are being supported by numerous other officers on foot patrol in the area.

Following extensive forensic examinations, the junction of Green Lane and Moorgate Road has now been reopened. House-to-house visits and increased patrols will continue this evening and will be maintained for the foreseeable future.

Chief Superintendent Jason Harwin, the District Police Commander for Rotherham, said: “I’d like to thank the members of the public who have already contacted the police with information, and urge anyone else who saw or knows something to come forward immediately.”

Anyone who has any information that could help this investigation should contact police on 01709 443414 quoting incident 730 of 28.09.13. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

This ba*tard needs catching and stringing up by his ba**s.

Not many people get away with crimes like this these days-he will be caught shortly.

At 6`3 the attacker is quite distinctive in stature. In respect of that, I would guess that the police will have a good idea whether or not the same person committed both attacks. There has not however been anything definitive said in respect of that just yet.

I am puzzled a little, that the clothing is only described a light coloured by the victim, but was able to be very specific about the attacker’s eye colour.
