Advertising out of stock items

Just been googling for a new house telephone.

Argos are showing nine options within my price range.

Cordless with at least three handsets.....

All nine are out of stock at any branch within 25miles of my home.

That's about ten branches out of stock.

Why don't they just take them off line if they can't produce the goods!

It's a typical Argos thing. You put in a price for one of the cheaper goods and it's out of stock, but you want/need one so some people will plum for the suggested alternatives at the bottom which are more expensive.

I drove to Wakefield last week to pick up a pair of waterproof trousers shown in stock at the Go Outdoors branch there. More fool me.

indeed. Anybody that gets in a car and drives 25km for an everyday item like that needs their head examining.

Argos are rubbish, never anything in stock when you want it. I'm surprised they are still in business.

Even online most of the stuff is out of stock. You would think with a huge storage warehouse that they could have the items in.

It's partly down to their bizarre ordering system, in a well oiled system you pay for your item as you reserve it, then pick it up later.

At Argos you reserve it without paying and if you don't turn up then you've just delayed somebody else getting that item for the next 24 hours.

Why should they take them off line ? Some people are prepared to wait.
