Annie Bynnol
There is very little local traffic at this point but it is the junction of four very busy bus routes into and out of town and will only get busier with the new market. The current bus gate prevents a "short cut" from St Mary's gate onto Eyre Street. Through traffic are not hindered by this and usually go through the go across the London Rd. lights use the first exit at roundabout to get to Eyre Street at Staples. Normally there is no problem as it is little used and the very large number of buses from London Road and Cumberland Street into and out of town can use the tight Eyre Street/Cumberland Street/South Lane Junctions. Local traffic is very limited. At busy times traffic tries to avoid the lights and roundabout on St Mary's gate and use South Lane to access Eyre Street. At this time the Cumberland Street/ South Lane junction becomes blocked for all traffic in all directions because of the tailback from the Eyre Street Traffic lights. BoroB
I suppose we should be happy that the so called 'UK brain drain' has not hit the councils city centre development team yet .......they're probably still wondering which one of them has got it.
