Real Ale Pub on Rutland Road

Recommended Posts

I called into the (Ex-Foresters Showbar) Woodside pub on the right going up Rutland Rd.

Choice of four real ales on hand pump at reasonable prices and kept in excellent condition.

A good addition to the Valley of Beer and well worth a call into...

What beers are they selling? Is it the one about halfway up on the right?

Still had the old signs up when I went past last week & didn't look that inviting from the outside.

Out of interest, does anyone know why the the price of a pint of real ale is not considerably lower (or often dearer) than beer produced by the larger well know breweries

This was the last pub to hold a beer only license and spirits were off limits.

Well, two reasons that spring to mind are the economies of scale the big boys enjoy and the fact that the smaller craft breweries use decent ingredients.

Basically - you pay for quality.

Then other factors that are making all beers in pubs expensive is the ever increasing taxes - beer duty (which goes up above inflation every year), VAT, music licences, tv licence, alcohol licence and all the regulations imposed on pubs...
