Andy C   86 #10 Posted December 23, 2012 Out of interest, does anyone know why the the price of a pint of real ale is not considerably lower (or often dearer) than beer produced by the larger well know breweries  Well, two reasons that spring to mind are the economies of scale the big boys enjoy and the fact that the smaller craft breweries use decent ingredients.  Basically - you pay for quality.  Then other factors that are making all beers in pubs expensive is the ever increasing taxes - beer duty (which goes up above inflation every year), VAT, music licences, tv licence, alcohol licence and all the regulations imposed on pubs...
