Dear sheffield council

Recommended Posts

TOTALLY agree, which is why, if i ever became unemployed I'd get up at 06:30 and knock on EVERY door until 18:00 every day until i got a job.

yet being IN work, which clearly doesn't pay you enough to go swimming, you come on here to bitch and moan about people who are out of work.

So what did YOU do last Friday to find a better job?

If life on benefits is so great, then why not just pack in your job and join in? Because after all life on benefits is a wonderful bountiful free for all where all your wildest fantasies come true.

Nowt wrong with swimming in the canal...think its still free, its better than anything that SIV can provide... as kids we loved it when the sun was out, hose pipe on the yard if you had one...great fun, 2 jobs...1 each...how lucky...got a bike? car? socialise in pubs clubs?...got no job...sorry to hear that, open your eyes people theres loads to do, if its fitness your after i know loads of pensioners that would exercise the life out of you with small jobs that need doing, sure also that most of them could also put the gym money to good use......oh and the tea will be free :hihi::hihi:

get over yourself you hard done to lot.

Yo Fred!

On your rounds give my door a miss... I'm retired now....

I enjoy my life of leisure funded by my private and state pension, plus all the extra little benefits. Why if it was not for keeping my boat as a third home, I don't know what I would do with it all.

Lateral thinking is what's needed....

A swim in the River Don for free, you never know, might even create a trend. Don't run home behind a bus to save £3 when you can run home behind a taxi and save £15.

Think Lateral... you could use all what you save on luxuries like indoor swimming at the baths.

Mick

Dear sheffield council. I would like to know why, my partner and I aren't eligible for a "slice card" which would entitle us to discounts at various leisure centres. we are both tax payers and aren't in receipt of any benefits, so its our tax money that funds these centres yet the bone idle and work shy lazy get the benefit of my tax money in the form of cheap swimming etc. we work a combined week of over 80 hrs and yet we cant afford to use the centres that we are forced to fund. can someone please explain to us how this is fair? why are the unemployed yet again being rewarded and the hard workers being effectively punished and excluded. thanks.

You've answered the question, it's available to those who are in receipt of benefits.

I used to think like you, until my life was turned upside down and I ended up a singe parent on benefits.

Yes it is annoying when it is perceived that those on benefits are living the high life at your expense, however I think we are all perhaps guilty to covert what our neighbour has without appreciating the things we do have.

Not all of us on benefits have never worked, my tax contributions went in the same pot as yours and when I find a job, I will again be paying my taxes.

I don't consider myself to be 'bone idle' or 'workshy' thank you very much.

Sorry, what's absolutely annoyed me about the people on beneftis coming onto this thread is not ONE of them has said 'Yes, perhaps although I get this benefit there should be more help for the low paid people who subsidise this to visit the same place and use the same facilities because it's not fair that they can't.

All I'm hearing is 'I'm entitled, I'm entitled, I'm entitled' then they have the brass neck to complain about somebody who thinks the fact that they work and pay for SIV facilities means they should be entitled to use them?

That really gets me, when you get people who are on benefits who have a massive sense of entitlement but couldn't give a flying if those who are working and paying feel some kind of entitlement too.

If just one person had said something along those lines it might have the whole thing feel fairer but to be honest it just feels like they're happy for other people to pay for their activities but couldn't give a stuff if other people have affordable access to the same thing as long as they're getting it.

But that is what the OP inferred, I personally don't have a sense of entitlement, I feel lucky to live in a country that has a welfare state.

I'm not sure how by me saying 'it's not fair', would make the OP feel any better.

It is rubbish how once you have a job, the powers that be simply imply that 'you're sorted now, off you go'.

I don't think there is much difference between low income and living on benefits, how that is addressed I'm not sure.

As I said before, not everyone who ends up in the dole queue has spent a life of riley at the tax payers expense, we have paid into the system too, so I'm not sure why you would expect anyone in that situation to patch up the OP, when they implied all people living on benefits are workshy and lazy.

I agree with you on that. But it's more the tone of the people on benefits replying saying they're entitled and people who work should pay. It's just irritating that they're so quick to say they're entitled to something and grab it with both hands but they don't care if it's made affordable for other people. Particularly when you get the impression some posters have never worked and have no intention of working and only care that they get freebies, not that it's accessible for everyone.

But that isn't aimed at you Lorna.

but people who work and are on a low income do get help.. Working Tax Credits, Housing Benefits, Council Tax benefit. If you have worked for 30+ years and paid into the system yes you are entitled to claim benefit

Yet another thread on the theme of "someone's getting something that I'm not".
