andingmen
Sheffield is, indeed, a great city to live in. Every one of my friends and colleagues who are originally from other places all say the same. They are often incredulous at some of the negativity they hear from a few of the locals. I would guess that the majority of letters to the Star and the like are only usually submitted because someone has a grievance to air and so are not representative of the majority view. People who are just happy with things tend to get on with enjoying their lives - like the majority of this city’s residents. Sure, there are problems with the city, but which place hasn’t got them? Heaven knows, I’ve had a rant or two over the years myself about some of the stuff that’s gone on here and at times it can be really frustrating but I still love the place. For me, it’s like having an older brother or sister. They can be really annoying at times but you love them all the same. And woe betide anyone else having a pop! I think Sheffield should have a new motto. How about “Sheffield, so nearly fantastic!”?

SimmoniteM
I've always enjoyed living here, and though there aren't that many, some of the buildings are really quite nice

highfly
Most students that move here from other cities to go to Sheffield University, love the city, and many make it their permanent home, after getting their degrees. This is my experience too. I've worked at many houses in Sheffield where the occupants have said they finished university and decided to stay on because Sheffield is such a great place. thorphanger
Love Sheffield it is a great place to live. Always think it is more like a large village. People on the whole friendly. Also love the fact that the Peak District is minutes away.
Daven
the people here are top notch, however the city as buildings, history & ammenities is a dump Either you are walking around with your eyes closed or you are talking about a very different Sheffield to the one that I was born in and have grown up in ! Sheffield is heaving in history - there are clues at every corner in the City Centre alone ! I would hazard a guess that you have not lived anywhere else ? I had the misfortune to leave Sheffield to live in Bradford a few years ago. I lasted a year and couldn't wait to come home.
