2012 budget - will you be getting screwed?

Recommended Posts

Alcohol staying where it is. Fag duty going up (cigarettes I mean!). Earners over 50k lose child benefit but gradually up to 60k.

But households where 2 people each earn £48,000 keep their child benefits ??

No change in duty on fuel and alcohol then? Jump in excise duty in line with inflation, which will indirectly affect the prices!

Treatment of herbal smoking products – Subject to consultation on the implementation process, the Government will legislate to make legally available tobacco-free smoking products liable to excise duty, in the same way as tobacco products

Before the changes, parents could have earned £100 million a year and the government would have given them a payment.

Would have liked a cut in fuel duty. It's still going up in august. Not sure about the rest, although personal income tax allowance going up to £9k is good.

And for the love of god will the labour party PLEASE get rid of ed milliband. He made George osbourn sound like churchill with his nasaly whine. He might have made some good points (a first time fir everything) but just couldn't stand to listen to him.

The argument was, it cost more to means test the child benefit, that is to find out if a parent was eligible for the benefit, than than the savings made by cutting it, so was left alone.

What this government has decided to do was to link the benefit to a tax rate so it is really easy to put into place.

Bizarre budget,

the govt say this is a budget for the middle incomes, yet they cut the top rate tax band meaning a banker on 5 million, takes home another 240 grand a year!!!

Also, how can a family earning 100k still claim benefits while a single mum earning 50k get them cut? 60k non at all?

that's just bizarre.

The only saving grace is an increase in personal allowance.

The assumption is that most of their votes will come from the higher earners. No point in severing that artery is there.
