£19.4m for bus 'rapid transit' scheme along the Don Valley

Recommended Posts

The following item is on the BBC news pages today:

"In Sheffield, £19.4m will be spent on the first phase of a bus "rapid transit" scheme along the Don Valley towards Rotherham"

Is is needed when so few buses go along the Don Valley towards Rotherham?

What impact will this have for other road uses?

What else would you spend £19.4 million on?

As it's Governments brass (ours then) I dont see a problem. Every one knows we have money to burn. We must have for daft schemes like this.

Better to upgrade the internet to our small country villages by putting in fibre optic cables.

Angel.

Wonder if it'll be a couple of tins of white paint to make some more bus-only lanes...?

Oh dear it sounds like the guided bus lanes that Runcorn has and were going to be put between Leigh and Manchester.

They're completely rubbish.

And also the Cambridge one which came in about two years late and massively overbudget. I cannot see why we are spending this money on yet anothet transport link when we have a perfectly good train, bus and soon to be tram-train network serving the towns.

Because they have to do these projects as a.) a desperate attempt to boost the economy (using borrowed money again) and b.) as a backwards justification for the existence of local transport planners.

Is this a dedicated BUS road that excludes cars?

Its probably based on the false idea that public transport is somehow "green" or "sustainable". They really dont look ahead when they make these insane decisions.

And North Leeds, parallel to the A61 south of Harrogate Road.
