PETROL: All time high

Recommended Posts

so why no protests ??

in France they would be bedlam ,lorry drivers, farmers etc would be doing blockades everywhere

why in uk do we lie down and take it ?

I think that petrol is slightly more expensive in France at the moment.

Australasia and the US are the places to fill up. Mind you, prices will be on the up there as well. The oil is running out. Haven't you heard?

Electric cars are out and about now, only trouble is so far you have to re-charge the battery again if you need to go get the loaf of bread you forgot to buy

Not always. Get one of these and drive and drive and drive.

It is the future.

That's nothing more then a marketing trick. They always seem to find new reserves when needed though and there certainly is no drop in supply.

Thats right,where are the protests?

We had them a few years ago.

Surely they weren't just a political stunt organised by farmers unhappy with the Blair government.

I really cannot understand why they do not just put long leads on them so that you can plug them into the mains at home and off you go.

I've been running on autogas/LPG for the last few years, generally half the price of petrol, but even that isn't safe from price hikes. In the summer my local garage was charging 59.9p a litre, then suddenly it shot up to 65p for no reason. This week it's 72.9p. That's 13p a litre increase in a short period of time.

Petrol users complain about the 1p and 2p increases, but LPG although still a hell of a lot cheaper than petrol, is rocketing.

This is going to become a really big deal. Demand for oil, especially from developing economies like China, is set to grow exponentially (a lot!) whilst the supply of oil has just about peaked (search peak oil). Now the oil companies have been onto a really good thing for years and will try to maintain the status quo for as long as they can. New oil finds are still happening but are getting rarer and much more expensive to develop (deepwater rigs for example). Our whole economy is oil based. Everything we take for granted, our food, power, fertilisers, gadgets, plastic, everything, is based on oil. This simply cannot go on, it is unsustainable. As a consequence, fuel prices will edge up relentlessly.

Petrol might be 121.9 now, but in 10 years time you will look back and think they were trying to give it away!!

Indeed if you look at the whole picture: Car insurance, servicing, fuel, VAT, etc, costs over the next year are going to rise astronomically and very many people will be priced off the road. Especially when you add in the rising costs to basic life such as heating for the home and food. The rich (bless), will enjoy clear roads whilst the rest of us wait around for public transport or get creative. Ideas? Discuss cycle, motorbike and the greenest of all, horse. Progress anyone?
